Short Track America continues to break new ground in the Internet broadcasting arena with the announcement last week on Real Racin’ USA that it is set to broadcast the entire 12 Hours of Ocala show live via the Internet. While there are many details to be worked out, there are no serious technical issues to overcome, and Bill Green, Jack Smith, Rick Anges, Scott McAllister, John Berti and others will be involved in the actual delivery of the 12 hour show.
Short Track America feels “this is a way to make the 12 Hours of Ocala really big, giving it the nationwide audience deserving of such a bold stroke by Ocala owner Mike Peters and his General Manager Lou Trembley.”
The 12 hour race is set to run from midnight on Friday night October 20 and conclude at Noon on Saturday. The car with the most laps wins a guaranteed $5000, with $1000 for second, $750 for third, $500 for fourth and $250 for finishing fifth.
Just about any car with a four-point roll cage is eligible with the exception of 4 wheel drives, convertibles, and of course any Sebring (12 hour), Daytona (24 hour) or road course designed type cars will not be allowed. Guess you can leave the Porche at home this night. Somewhat complete rules are available on the Ocala Speedway web site under Rules.
Fans in search of racing on Friday the 20th of October can see the regular divisions in action at Ocala Speedway, and also at Orlando Speedworld. DeSoto Super Speedway will also be active on Friday since it hosts the first leg of the Florida Triple Crown for Super Late Models, a 125 lap race that is part of the All American Challenge Series points race as well as the FASCAR Sunbelt Series.
A special Friday Night, After the Races will begin broadcasting beginning at roughly 10PM on Friday, live interviews from the Triple Crown race and elsewhere will be beamed around the world by the power of the Internet. And then we will be there from green to checkered at the beautiful Ocala Speedway as drivers try to keep their cars running for 12 hours.
Short Track America will be doing interviews with drivers and fans throughout the night and morning to help give a sense of the test of endurance for the drivers just to complete the event, for those who are too far away to get to the event.
Saturday night the Triple Crown moves to Bronson Motor Speedway where the FASCAR Sunbelt Series will run another 125 lap and then conclude on Sunday back at Ocala Speedway. The Short Track America team in liaison with KARNAC.com will be covering each race throughout the weekend with live reports, lots of photos and interviews with the drivers.
It is certain to be one wild weekend with the toughest three days of Super Late Model racing and the longest race of the year, the 12 Hours of Ocala.
Like Rick said, “Its the 72 hours of Short Track America”.
