  • Orlando Speedworld's Safety

My Son Is Thirteen And Raced Last Night At Orlando Speedworld In The Quick Kids And Wrecked Head On Into The Wall Going 80 Mph And The Truck Rolled Down Into The Middle Of The Track On Its Own. Well The Track Didn't Call A Caution To Check On Him.they Just Thumbs Up Him Across From The Track And He Put His Hands Up In The Air And They Took That As That He Was Ok. Well That Wasn't The Case He Has Cracked Ribs , A Hurt Wrist And Couldn't Hardly Breath . He Hit So Hard That The Ear Plugs Came Out Of His Ears And We Had No Contact With Him To See If He Was Ok . The Race Continued And My Son Was In The Middle Of The Track Hurt And They Didn't Even Care .the Safety Calls At The Track Is Very Scarey. I'm Writing To Let Everyone Know The Safety Calls They Are Making And See What Everyone Thinks About It.

Since your son is only 13 I wonder if:
    A. you are aware of the dangers in racing?
    B. you checked out the safety apparatus (the crew, equipment, training, professionalism etc) at the tracks where your son races?
    C. did you speak to the management (or safety personnel) of the track?
    D. Did you read the waiver you signed?

    OR
Did you take it for granted that ideal safety was in place?

There are three levels of responsibility:
    1. YOU as a parent
    2. The Management
    3. The safety personnel

You probably need to examine all three, not to diminish the track's responsibility, but after all it is your child.

We were sitting in the grandstands where this driver hit the wall at. It was a hard hit and we were also concerned that no one actually went over to the driver to make sure he was all right. He never put down his window net which is a sign saying something is wrong. Whether or not he was 13 doesn't matter when we all are suppose to be treated the same no matter what our age or race is.

I am sorry to hear he was hurt and hope he heals quickly.

I know racing is a dangerous sport and things do happen. Safety needs to be a top priority also. My husband and I were also hit in the pits but not only speeding race cars who were wanting to go out for practice but had to wait their turn but also by the golf carts, motor bikes and ATV's flying through the pits with kids driving them. Also some adults cannot drive them very well either.

        Safety

don't feel bad.Safety at our S.Fla. track is lack-luster in itself.Oh sure they have a ambulance and this past week a fire-truck.But they still lack track personel to handle wrecks. They have a track wrecker but it is inoperable.they use a tractor w/a 3 point hitch on the back.My problem is this:what happens when there is a big wreck and someone gets upsidedown and is pinned in their car??Do you really think a tractor is going to be able to do the job??I think we all know the answer to that one....

We Know The Dangers But The Point Is They Didn't Check On Him After He Wrecked. We Have BEEN Racing Him Since He Was 5 Yrs Old. We Have Top Notch Equipment.

What does the fact that you have "top notch" equipment have to do w/a tracks lack of safety for the drivers.I can tell you from first-hand dealings w/a certain track and it's lack of safety personel/equipment was cause for me to be scoffed at.Are you freakin kidding me??Brushing off drivers safety like it was nothing. All I can say is who's going to be laughing when something disaterous happens at one of these local tracks. Can Fla. and this sport we all claim to love so much here afford a black eye like that??I think not...

My question would be why would you race at a track that you feel has questionable safety in your opinion? And foremost why would you let your child somewhere that you had doubted being safe?
