Oct 09 2007 --- Crane and Drawdy Out to Solidify Snowball Spots In Blizzard Finale

PENSACOLA, FL (October 8, 2007) – Ryan Crane (LINK TO RECENT INTERVIEW WITH CRANE) and Justin Drawdy are competitive rivals on the Super Late Model circuits around the Southeast. Both drivers have considered the Blizzard Series at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway their home circuits in 2007. They know each other from left to right. They’ve battled one another for the top-two point spots in the Blizzard Series throughout the five-race battle. They’re even graduates of rival Florida universities.

Fittingly, the Crane and Drawdy rivalry will come to a head in the final Blizzard Series race of the 2007 season on Friday, October 12th. Crane, a Florida State alum, enters Blizzard Series round number-five 25 points head of University of Florida graduate Drawdy. While the top-two in Blizzard Series points earn guaranteed starting spots in the 40th Annual Snowball Derby later in the year at Five Flags, both drivers are out to win the race and let the points fall where they will on the series’ championship night.

“I want to win a race. I haven’t won a race all year, so I want to win one,” said Crane. “On the other hand, I want to win the points deal. I’d like to do both this weekend.”

“Hopefully we’ll have a shot at the championship, but I know that it will have to take some bad luck for Ryan Crane for us to do that,” said Drawdy. “We’ll have to see where it falls out, but I think we’re going to have a good shot to win the race and that’s really all we want to do.”

Crane has been one of the most consistent drivers on the Blizzard Series roster during the 2007 season, but he has yet to crack into victory lane. In order to secure the Blizzard Series championship, Crane knows that winning the 100-lap race is the best way to clinch the title.

“I’ve been on the phone with the motor guys, the car guys and everything just trying to make sure we don’t have anything untouched this weekend,” said Crane. “We don’t have much of a safety net because those guys are pretty close, but as long as we don’t have any bad luck we’ll be alright.”

Drawdy enters the event 25 points back of Crane, but he also is feeling the pressure from third-place points man Scott Carlson, who trails him by only 10 markers for the runner-up spot. While Drawdy already has one victory in the Blizzard Series this season, a second win in the series’ final night could be even more difficult because of the hectic schedule he has planned for the weekend.

Immediately after the Blizzard Series finale Friday night at Five Flags, Drawdy will hop onto a plane where he will have another Super Late Model waiting in Winchester, Indiana, where the Florida SLM veteran will compete in the Winchester 400 event on Saturday and Sunday.

“We’re going to be spread pretty thin because we’ll have half our guys in Winchester and the other half in Pensacolas, but I think we’ll have a good run in both places,” said Drawdy. “We’ll fly out of Orlando on Friday, have one trailer already there in Pensacola and have one trailer already in Winchester by Friday. We’ll race at Pensacola Friday night, then we have a plane chartered to take us to Winchester for Saturday morning. It will be a pretty wild weekend.”

In addition to the 100-lap Blizzard Series Super Late Model finale on October 12th, the Pro Late Model and Bomber champions will be crowned at Five Flags Speedway as well. Tickets are priced at just $15 for adults, $5 for kids age 6-14 and children five and under are admitted free.
