My first love was drag racing and I have seen some crashes but nothing like that. Too much like your parachute not opening when you are sky diving. They need a kill switch or something, another safety factor, if the chute fails to open. His family is in my prayers.

I am sure they will say he died doing what he loved but honestly, that is not much comfort right now for his family.

From what I saw, he would have been better off just rolling to a stop in the dirt pit. He wasn't going that fast when he hit the fencing and it just seemed to "fold-up" the car right at the point where he was sitting.

The arrestor hook/cable idea has merit.

he shouldn't be dead. if you watch the video, he had already scrubbed most of his speed before he hit the net.
