  • new track coming to Melbourne

Ok, so it is not a stock car oval, but these days we'll take what we can get. The front page of Brevard's newspaper "Florida Today" describes plans for a new mud bog - sand drag facility. It is supposed to open in mid September of this year. The site design includes twin mud bogs, an ATV bog and a small dirt oval for lawn mower racing and karting.

I can just see the old ladies lining up in opposition....

The owner is construction contractor Todd Williams. Good luck Todd, hope it goes great!

Isn't there future plans for a paved 5/8th mile oval track there too?

That sounds like about the same place the last track was supposed to have been built. Good luck, hope it goes OK. I do agree with boner though, the old folks are already getting in line. Sure hope we're wrong. billy

Its a different site, plan and organization from the group that tried to build a speedway in 2000.

gotta be cheek-by-jowl with the previous site though. there's only so much ground in the SW corner of Eau Gallie and 95 and then you run into the St. Johns river/swamp.

something else that will be different this time, FDOT is putting up sound mediation walls between Lamplighter Village and the interstate. there are still a couple of panels that haven't been placed but for the most part the entire wall is already up.

i would like to point out that Corwin is an idiot:
"Corwin is a Melbourne City Hall planner. In a letter, he asked county officials to ensure that the racetrack project will not impede development of the Washingtonia Extension, a future north-south roadway linking Viera with the Pineda Causeway."

Pineda causeway and Viera ( the Wickham Rd exit ) are both WAY north of Lake Washington Rd. it's not physically possible for something sited south of Eau Gallie ( which is south of Lake Washington Rd ) to even come into play here.

T-mac! Just think, lawn mower racing! Why you could mount up the LawnBoy and go for a wild ride. Wait, that didn't come out right...
