        Hey billy I see you were at Thule. I used to fly into Thule. Me or someone in my squadron flew you up there I'd guess. I flew a C130 and we went into Thule regularly. That place made me glad I was a Florida boy. I guess I'll add my duty stations. Bob.....

        Vietnam TDY 120 days. as well as flying in and out for 2 years.
        I was able to visit 27 countrys around the world as well as Vietnam that was a thrill a minute.

            Patrick AFB, FL 1952-56

            Being stationed at Dover was great as I got to many speedways such as Dover (opened in '69), Lincoln, Trenton, Langhorne, Beltsville, Blackbird, Langley, Hershey, Reading, Flemington and a few others I'm sure.

              Durn Marty, looks like you took over when Billy and I left. I think it was in 1964 or maybe 63 we flew down to warner robbins in Ga to pickup a new C130E and they had just rolled the first C141 off the Line. We got to go thru it and man was it big. We were used to the 130. It was built on the same theme as the 130 but it was a full jet and it was a lot bigger. The Hydraulic system sticks in my mind. I was impressed with it and its capabilitys.
              I only got to a few tracks up there. 1 in Deleware, Marlboro I think to a Motorcycle race a coupe times. To a little 1/4 mile dirt track in NJ and I don't remember the city now. I don't think Trenton was open when I was At Mcquire. I was gone so much flying that I didn't have a lot of time at home base. I went to several schools at Dover. I met a gal in Dover and I spent most of my crew rest days with her.LOL! She didn't end up as a wife though... Bob...

                Flvideo, I hope you didn't fly me back to Ft. Dix. The pilot forgot to put the landing gear down, and the tower had to remind him. We felt the gear lock into place and hit the runway at about the same time. That's one of the reasons I won't fly now. I went up there on a 707 for some reason. I guess the year in Thule was payback for 3 yrs in sunny Florida. billy

                PS. I've got a picture of the first sun of the year taken from North Mt. looking across the base. It's hanging on the living room wall.

                  HA HA! No that wasn't my crew but I remember hearing about it. That crew was disaplined for that. It was the 2nd pilots job to drop the gear. I understood he acknowleged that it was down during the pre landing check list and failed to drop it for some reason. We heard about it in a commanders call. What year did you come back. We got really busy at times and the AF contracted flights to remote bases. I spent 3 months in Keiflivick Iceland TDY one time before I went on flying status and that was cold enough. There was a lot of contract airliners coming thru there and you ain't lived till you walk the wing of a DC6 with a solid sheet of ice on it. Thats fun. Thule was a neat place. I was there in the summer months but mostly was in the winter to take relief troops there so you permanant party folks could take leave. Operation Deep Freeze I think. Man those were the days...                     I arrived in Feb. of 66 and left Feb. 67. Went to Fort Dix and got out after the usual BS. What really blew me away was in the summer we'd get such high winds that dust would blow through the closed windows into our rooms. Of course it was daylight 24/7 in the summer and dark 24/7 in the winter. billy
