The last one is the 1970 World Figure Eight Champion
Lester Sloan.
Here’s a short Bio for Lester among other pics from
the 1971 Sunshine Speedway Yearbook.
BTW – For you Old Sunshine Fans and Tampa Bay Racing
trivia buffs, I have a new brain teaser for ya down at the
bottom of the page in the Stump The Fans Photos forum.

Sooooo….1969 doesn’t fall into the “late 60’s early 70’s” bracket?

I'll post them if you guys want to see them.
Mostly late 60's early 70's
‘B’ Sportsman class in the late 60’s / early 70’s was the number 7.
However not sure it was ever the “Diamond 7”.
The only Diamond number I recall back then in that
class was Dick Pratt which I believe was the Diamond 4,
and I think sometimes his number was maybe 44?, but not 7.
Bottom line, those were great old shots there BVS40FL.
Thanks for sharing them with us.

A little history for you here... In late 1968, Bob Luscomb built two bobtail Sprint Cars that were essentially identical. The #7 was built for Rob Fuller, a young guy who had never driven a race car in his life. The #8 was originally built for LM hot shoe Marty Spengler. Fuller was a weapon when he first started as he was way in over his head. However, over time, he got better and eventually won a couple of features at the old Orlando track and I think won a race with the car at Golden Gate in late '70 or sometime in '71 before he just plain quit. Marty drove the #8 one time and it scared the sh** out of him and the guy who bought the car gave it back to Luscomb. Bob decided to stay closer to home and run pavement using this car and he won a ton of races with it at old Orlando and the Gate... Hopefully someone will recall the driver of the Diamond 7... I don't have a clue.

Update !!!!!
OK Dave Westerman and Jim Fenton , verify this updated info if you can.
I got a call last night from an old friend , "Chunky" Charlie Sanders, and he had some insight on that diamond 7 car. He said he thought it was one of George Rudolph's cars and that the driver was Daddy'O Morales. He said it was a B sportsman 6 cylinder w/ 2 carbs. He said they had another that Scarborough drove , possibly 6D, and they won quite regularly in it.
He spoke highly of Fenton and said he ran against him many times. Said he was tough as nails , and would drop the gloves in a second if the need arose.
Any confirmation ?

BVS40FL – Looks like your old friend Charlie nailed the
Diamond 7 driver debate. As I said, I was just guessing
with Fuller cause his number back then was also 7.
As for the other comment, he must be thinking of another
Fenton cause my mommy said I was always a good boy…..
Speaking of identifying drivers of the old ‘B’ Sportsman Class,
I have a bunch of pics of those guys I’ll need help to identify also.
I’ll throw them up here on Karnac as I get time.
I know Dave can probably call out some of them as well
as others here that might also provide some help.
Even though I never drove a ‘B’ Sportsman car, it is the class
that’s sort of close to my heart because it was to blame for
turning my attention from drag racing to roundy-round racing
back in High School.
In fact, here is the car that did it.
This ‘B’ Sportsman belonged to my Brother-in-Law,
Kenny Faircloth.
It is the first roundy-round car I ever worked on.
The year is 1964.
I am standing in the center with my left foot on the
trailer tire. Those two guys on either side of me are
my buds from High School.
My dad is seated on the trailer with my Niece, Terri
whose name appears on top of the grille shell in front.
It would be 4 more years before I got the chance to get
behind the wheel.
