The 73 is probably Dennis Langston. Not sure where he got that car; coulda been an ex-Neil Bonnett Race Cars (i.e., Frankie Grill) car. I'm in the process of letting that video load up now

Not quite sure if I spotted Jim Childers in a silver and blue #22; kept seeing one car I just couldn't quite identify (camera didn't stay on it long enough).

Man...Miller killed 'em with that V-6 car.

Sunshine Speedway - the "Action Track". Wow. 200 laps, 30 cars on a 1/4 mile. Guys knew how to beat and bang without tearin' stuff up and grab a spot. Very few cautions for accidents; only one I saw was when Gawlinski got turned around in turn two and Smith ran up over the nose. Bickle, the polesitter, got turned on the start in turn two, but I don't recall if the caution came out (in the video or in real time ). Not sure what happened to LeRoy; I think he may have been the car that stalled in turn one on one of them restarts. Saw some great passing on the outside there, too. Now *that*...was a quality field of cars, and I remember some good local cars loaded up after the heat races, too. I think at least half the field was out-of-state cars. Look at the variety of aerodynamic tricks, too. Langston's car (the red and white #73) was using a "stock-appearing" type body (which, back then, got you a bit of a weight break as the tracks tried to get away from the wedge cars), but still had a "trick" rear spoiler; Breakfield's car had like 5 "splitters" across the rear deck and no C-pillar on the roof; and Eddy's car had a "spoiler" that ran from the right front of the nosepiece all the way to the rear deck, all the way down the right side of the body (Westerman's got one of my pics of this car on his Web site, taken the following afternoon at DeSoto's 200-lapper).

Bob...thanks again for posting. Would love to know if maybe you have the 200 from DeSoto from the following day

If you look at the 73 its different from the others. Looks more modern than the others. I think it was a Neil Bonnet car. I seem to remember it at Desoto the next day. I can't find the tape from the next day yet. I am sure its there some where,

Well, Langston was running a more "stock-appearing" body than what was legal at St. Pete and DeSoto back then. He was going to go run All-Pro the following year, which mandated the "stock" bodies in '86. I have a pic somewheres of Langston showing up at the first All-Pro race of '86 at Pensacola with that same car. The wedge-type cars were still legal at St. Pete, DeSoto, and Inverness the following couple of years; in '88, we had to go to the "stock" type bodies as well at those tracks. Our first "stock" type body was a black Buick.

As far as Anderson goes...I remember he showed up at DeSoto on Friday with some really wild stuff. I believe there's a story somewheres where the tech guys couldn't figure out was wrong with the car; Anderson showed up at St. Pete for the 200 (the race in the video) with a completely different car. I think he had problems and missed the field at Sunshine, along with a few other hot shoes. At DeSoto the next day, Mark Malcuit, Buddy Griffin, David Rogers, Daniel Keene, Bobby Gill (in what I believe was his first LM start), and a few others showed up. Think we had like 40+ cars trying for I think 32 spots on Sunday at DeSoto.

Bob, Jimmy, If I remember correctly, that car that Dickie had was owned or part-owned by Mike Harper who owned Cement-Precast Co. in Gainesville Fla., created by Dickie and a few other creative minds!!LOL!!! Mike was a member of our hunting club in Ga. for 6 or 7 years. Lot of good memories! Thanks Bob, I was at both the races that weekend, REAL RACIN!!! Rick
