  • Punta Gorda Tires

Saw a post yesterday from Carol Wicks gushing over the change to Goodyear tires and what all Goodyear was giving back to the track.
Also saw a question on what the racers who have American Racer tires are supposed to do with them.

These posts seemed to have disappeard.
With Opening Night looming nearly a week could we get these questions answered??

    Gushing?

rofllllll. i can't even remember the last time i "gushed"... anyway nara... the OWM guys i talked to were happy with TREADED tires rather than the expensive short lasting slicks. i was "gushing because Kevin ok'd the less expensive treaded tires. Thanks for the giggle. I needed it. Its going to take a little time to get things all right!

        ;-) breathe in... breathe out...

im ok. like ya said. life is too short and most of these problems are pretty small in the scheme of things. but they do need to be taken care of. ;-)
i just dont understand why all the tracks cant run the same darned tires. tires that are safe and affordable.... in the end it all comes out ok... oh well. im just a woman.. what do we know... hahaha thanks Craig. miss ya... have a fun week

carol let me see if i can help you it's been while

since anyone has ran slicks i think orl - and new symnara maybee desota . citrus - and auburndale one ran good years other ran american racers then citrus and auburndale got together and both tracks run american racers groved charlotte county agreed to let us run american racers against his track tires so he could get the cars

then drivers found out american racers were just a tick faster ; then you could buy good years that you could order that were even faster so not long ago a few drivers had them some of them special tires at citrus but got caught and did not get to run them

so i guess the magic trick is to try to please ever one well you can't now if one track ran open wheels ever week then all the tracks would probably have all locals problem is auburndale races once a month some times twice

then citrus about same - then what ever desoto does then got orl and new swynra - and now punta gorda speedway

and ever body has the silver bullet tire -- i don't care what kind of tire the tracks run you can tell me you can run a set of tires for ten weeks or whole year .. let me give you some facts right side and left rear two weeks left front 3 weeks hoosier slicks good year slicks 3-4 weeks

if you are gonna race you gonna pay sure i'd like a 8'' groved tire that you could run for five weeks just in race no warm ups no practise

and i would also like to pay 3.00 gallon for fuel not 8.75 gallon and last but not least need to get steve at progressive to sell 20.000 dollar complete engine for 5500.00 and a new cope modified let's say 3500.00 not 15.000

don't need a seat or trans --- man got a birthday coming up pretty soon make it in black ok

                punta gorda tires

The questions are, why pull the posts about the Goodyear tires , and can the American Racers we have still be used???

Just answer those two questions. An official from Punta Gorda needs to answer.

i am not an official but i am helping them because they are swamped with work getting ready for next week. so here is the answer to your question...
Goodyears are the only treaded tires allowed. In order to make that choice acceptable to the driver the track has allowed for a fair payout. Also, Goodyear treaded tires outlast American Racers and these tires priced at $106 are the cheapest in the state. This answer is the one I got from Greg, the manager, for you... thank you

Well if that's the case and you HAVE to run Goodyears, they will be down one Sportsman until I can find another sponsor or something to get tires. My tires have just under 100 laps on them and the funny thing is, they were bought from Kevin, and now he's not going to let them run.

                        LM tires

What about me and other late models? I have a set of American Racers that I bought at the January late model race that still have the stickers on them. They have never been run, and because the number on the side is not the number other tracks are running, I can't run them ANYWHERE now. Is the track going to take them back, or do I have $500 paper weights?

                          Unbelievable!!!

Wow, all this controversy over tires!
owm53: I feel your pain IT SUCKS!
naranja: I guess you got your answer about tires, probably not what you wanted to hear though.
crobinson: YOUR RIGHT racing is on its ASS
mrabney: you should run for president, and by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the one coming soon
ss82: i dont know kevin but he probably didnt know at the time he sold you those tires that they were going to good year.. if he did.. Uh OH!
wre11: thats terrible that you got 4 stickers and nowhere to go with them, maybe you can contact american racer and ship back to them.. might be worth a try, Good Luck!

Now heres my 2 sense.. this is a discussion board right! ive never met this guy kevin, one of the owners, right? They say he used to be an open wheel modified racer, i think that the tire issue could have been handled like this.. the track was selling american racers when it opened this year with bobby and gary at the helm, maybe he should have finished out the year on those american racers, seems how the people that were supporting the track were on those tires already! and if goodyear had a better deal.. so be it! theres always next year! but it'd have to be more than a champions jacket! Its a shame that you had auburndale, citrus, and charlotte finally on the same tire program.. as far as goodyear being $106 compared to $114 american racer WHIPPEE! goodyear probably has a freakin warehouse full of 8in treaded tires, because no one i know in the state of florida is even on them! and as far as being better than the rest hoosier, american racer ext.. they all pretty much seem to suck! but look on the positive side.. i think he has a great payout structure, hes cut his grand stand admission 50%, parking spots 50%, and i hope they cut the concession stand prices. Also, last time i was there 4 burgers, 4 fries and 4 drinks were $40. thats a bit steep! no wonder those cats didnt want us cookin in the pits! well, ive BS long enough.. good luck to the new Punta Gorde speedway and i hope to get down there and check it out soon.

it's not the grooved tires that have been changing the tire rule every 6 months.
