  • Volusia and New Smyrna in the same night

Edm and I went to the LM and big block modified show at VSP tonight, then stopped by for the fireworks at the end of New Smyrna's night.

Volusia had everything in place for a great night: tremendous car counts in both classes, good organization, and a fast paced show with no big delays. The problem was the racing surface. The dirt just never came in, so they had a tough time passing all night. You never know with dirt. When its right the racing is great. When its not, everyone wins from the pole.

We made it to New Smyrna for the SK modified feature. It was a throw-away 20 lapper BUT it provided the most fireworks I've seen at New Smyrna for at least 10 years. It had assertive passes for the lead, paybacks, double paybacks, a 50 man victory circle battle royal, officials being attacked, a driver being maced, and on and on it went. I don't want to give too many details because this is not the place for race reports!

Right past the start finish line, toward the top. It was a mess indeed.

It looked like the surface would get racey after they worked on it before the B mains, but they still missed somehow. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.

I thought about it but the security guys reaching for the pepper spray made me stay on pit road. I give the guy a 9 out of ten for the form he showed diving into Silk's car to "discuss things with him". Ed. note: This in no way should be taken for a race report. Thank you.

Still a little wound up from the racing myself. Rex did a pretty good job of explaining our night. It didn't matter that the racing sucked at Volusia, it was still neat being there. You walk through the gate and I felt like a little kid at the circus. Stuff going on everywhere, oh yeah the beer girl was kind of cute.

The rib sandwich was awesome, lots of cars and the announcer even made the truck that was blocking somebody in sound exciting. The flag man was up to his usual antics and even though there wasn't much passing the racing was still pretty good.

I will give Volusia this, they need to give a lesson to Nss on how to get a track cleaned up after an accident. I actually saw guys running to pick junk up. They had three tow trucks that worked like clock work clearing a large accident.
NOTE TO NSS TOW TRUCKS: IF YOU ARE SHORT HANDED DROP THE CAR YOU HAVE SAFELY IN THE PITS WHEREVER IT MAY BE AND GET YOUR ASS BACK ON THE TRACK TO CLEAR THE OTHER POOR SOB SO THE SHOW CAN GET GOING AGAIN. Thats what other tracks do and it works!

After Volusia we took a five mile detour to NSS on our way home. Only got to see the Sk race. Thats one we will be talking about for a while. Who would have thought that we would see more passing in that one race then we did the entire time at Volusia.

Rocco is an idiot but a hell of a driver. Awesome restart, great pit work but stupid endangering other drivers.

LOL, I would like to think that I have a little more sense then that. Racing rivalries is what racing needs.

VSP Speedweeks = Old School NSS speedweeks in terms of the "wow" factor. Racing depends on track conditions for sure, but regardless you know you were at a show when you leave.

Now Ed be careful when describing the beverage attendents I have been told that there is one that might just whoop your ass if you get on her bad side. Although I have to say, that sounded like fun.

Not me, I fight back and besides I thought I was being complimentary. I wasn't gonna fall for the ole $5 beer with fruit in it trick.

Yea, I have to admit I didnt want to go public with the Bud Light Lime info, but felt full disclosure was best at that point.
