  • VSP Late Models - worth the money!

Now that was a show! The best late model field I have seen assembled ran a helluva night (heats, mains, etc) Track had a high and low groove working. I'll let someone in the "media" describe the action in detail, but in summary it was badass!

Ran through a silly number of heats and mains in both modifieds and late models. Boney had mentioned in another post how he wasnt a fan of the heat races, well in this kind of field, the heats were the ticket to the feature only 24 of the 70 late models made it so they raced hard every lap. Alot of the big names struggled to make the field. Same with the mods.

Anyhow all that and they were done by 10:30...

2nd that ,and with only like 3 cautions for the whole night,it was a really and great show.
And qualifying for the late models what a great way of doing that.
    Way to go VCS

Yea, it is definitely a gamble with the track conditions, when it is good, it is the best racing I have seen. When it isnt - it is lame.

Yep, its too bad because the track did an awesome job after the amount of rain we have had.

What was more impressive to me wasn't the 68 cars trying to get into the race, it was the guys that didn't make the show. Chub Frank and Steve Francis just to name a couple that stand out in my mind. McCreadie and Owens barely making the show was interesting too. I thought they would be near the front.

Their transponder group based qualifying is a thing of beauty. Not to mention lining up the field prior to them getting on the track, multiple safety vehilces, etc. It would be gawd awful out there if they didn't have their poop in a group.

Yea, the heats the other night when i went were some of the most talent packed hard fought races I have seen. Were you as blown away at the $$ in those pits as I was?

With the differents shows they have here and there during the season with great cars counts, they have to be ready, if not, the shows would never ends. As far as $$$ invested, there are way more big $ shows on dirt right now than on pavement. There is not a week during the year you cannot race somewhere for at leat 10,000$ to win. And they run races up to 100,000$. Don't see that many of that on pavement either. And the cars are more ''standardized''. With + or - 100 pounds and spoiler size adjustement, you can almost race anywhere, any series, any motor, and be competitive.

                      Well said Andre,
The Big Blocks have done qualifying in groups for several years now. It really speeds up a show. Several of these DIRT guys race for a living and they have for many years. It's been that way for over 25 years. Many of the high dollar shows are mid-week specials. The drivers can race their regular weekend points tracks and then still follow a race series, without fear of losing out on points. Then the real big shows are run on weekends after the regular season ends.
