  • Wednesday Night At Volusia

Actually got to go see some DIRT TRACK racing for once during Speed Week (Thank you Tonya Moschell!!!)
Here are some results since I don't see anything on the front page or results section yet (Full results are available at the Volusia web site):

All Star Sprints (41 cars attempted time trials):

    1) Craig Dollansky
    2) Joey Saldana
    3) Donny Schatz
    4) Steve Kinser (New Tony Stewart Bass Pro Shops ride)
    5) Stevie Smith
    6) Lucas Wolfe (Subbing in the R19 for Jac Haudenschild)
    7) Daryn Pittman (Good run after winning the B Main)
    8) Jason Meyers
    9) Lance Dewease
    10) Sam Hafertepe, Jr.
    11) Terry McCarl (Heat winner)
    12) Cale Conley
    13) Fred Rahmer
    14) Danny Lasoski
    15) Tim Shaffer
    16) Brad Sweet
    17) Bob Felmlee
    18) Ben Gregg
    19) Tim Kaeding
    20) Jason Sides
    21) Cody Darrah (Heat winner)
    22) Glenn Styres (Heat winner)
    23) Doug Esh (Heat winner)
    24) Brandon Wimmer

Dollansky started on the pole and led early but Sides caught him late in traffic and took the lead only to have the rear end on his car break shortly after. After the caution for Sides, Tim Kaeding took a wild ride into the catch fence between 1 and 2... The fence did its job!
Normally I hate seeing the fast cars start up front in a feature, but it didn't matter in this race... they were all fast cars!! Some of the drivers who didn't make it included Kraig Kinser, Greg Hodnett (he was dreadfully slow all night), Greg Wilson, Bill Rose, Dean Jacobs and Paul McMahan.
Steve Kinser looked great... The first time I saw him run Volusia was 32 years ago!!!
74 Modifieds signed in... Pretty rough and tumble all night including a wild turn three barrel roll by Todd Sherman when they tried some 4-wide racing... I liked the qualifying format of putting 12-13 cars on the track with four laps being timed by transponders... That way both practice and time trials were done together... Rob Underwood was super strong timing in the top five but broke a drive shaft in his heat. Wayne Hammond was the only Florida driver to make the field and he finished 11th in a car that had most of the right side body work peeled off. Cup driver Clint Bowyer was strong but spun out three times and finally gave up and finished 15th. Took six heats and three B Mains to set the field and they expect more cars tonight!! Drivers from as far away as ND, CA and NM!! Buzzie Reutimann was driving one of the Northwest Ohio University cars but the thing was a dog and he ran as good as he could. David Reutimann is supposed to run the car tonight...

Top Ten in the Modified feature:

    1) Dave Hess, Jr.
    2) Tommy Seets
    3) Jason Hughes
    4) Austin Dillon
    5) Kenny Wallace (Nice run after qualifying thru his B Main)
    6) Kenny Schrader
    7) Jared Landers
    8) Dale Mathison
    9) Scott Green
    10) Jeremy Kerzaman

Although it was cold and very damp, the show was well run, the track was smooth and dust free and I got back to Orlando by 1AM...

Gonna make it back out tonight too... Can't wait!!!

All stories from Volusia and East Bay are up. Not sure what time but they are there now for sure. Someone was suppose to help me post stories so I wouldn't go nuts since I am also working but I am sure they came out too early in the morning for most people to post. I will admit that when I got home last night Dave, I went to bed instead of checking which I usually do.

Still don't know what is wrong with dad so will probably drive back home again tonight. But will see you later and last night was a blast. Didn't like the wrecks at all but the racing was great and fun to watch Schrader and Wallace out there. Hope David has better luck tonight in the #00 than Buzzie did. See ya later.
