  • Thank You Dave Westerman!

Man.....seeing pics like these is freakin' awesome!

THIS is what I love best about a racing message board!
THIS is 1000 times better than arguing about politics, religion and owner/promoters!
THIS is the kind of thing that makes people feel good about racing again!

MR. WESTERMAN! YOU ARE THE MAN!
Thank you for posting these photos and clippings today. Did you finally get a scanner of your own for Christmas? Well, Hallelujah and pass the cornbread!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep them coming and hopefully it will pull some more of the old guard out to comment or tell some stories about them or maybe even offer up some of their own! I saw that Kenny Alderman posted on the St Pete pic you put up and I really like reading the stuff that Mr. Fenton posts on here about the good old days. When I was a kid I read anything about racing that I could get my hands on and that's how I know about a lot of these guys from the other coast and down south.

Can you tell how stoked I am about this?

Again, please keep posting your stuff, Mr. Westerman and thank you very much!

Anybody else feel free to jump on the bandwagon and dig up some old shots of yourselves or your Dad's or Uncle's cars.

Well I'm not a native and didn't know most of these people. So I don't have the emotional responses that OJ does. But I do get a certain feeling when I see the pictures of the old coupes and sedans. The late models don't do much for me but the older body styles do. I guess it a type of nostalgia. Not sure whether it makes me feel good or sad. Anyway, I do like looking.

Now it's hard to believe this is 1000 times better than arguing about the owners/promoters but I agree it's better than religion and politics.

Dave, I really enjoy the old pictures because they make me think of my dad. I never did get to see him race because he quit when I was born. He still helped others with their cars including SCCA, drag racing and did widen many wheels over the years for sand drags and also for Dick Trickle who would send them down from Canada to be done. Something I really miss is that old machine we used to cut the wheels to widen them, one of the first things I learn to do as a child. I know he did climb into a Sprint car at Volusia a few years before he died and had a blast doing it and he was not a young man then, he was in his late 60's. My friend who went with him to use his jeep as a push truck had so much fun but scared him to death when he couldn't find my dad who was on the track in a car. It was Frank Riddles car he had out there and Frank told Dad if he wrecked it that was just fine because he had a back up car.

Dad talked so much about the old days of racing and we had wished he would of wrote a book about it before he passed away.

Dave, keep the pictures coming because I really enjoy them!

        Happy New Year!!!!!
