  • What I Do for Fun!

    http://www.snowbirdnationals.com

I have been racing electric R/C oval cars for 20+ years now. This year will be my second year competing at the Snowbirds. This event is the largest R/C racing event in the world. Over 600 entries last year in both road course and oval classes. This year, I'm competing in one of the oval Truck classes. If y'all wanna see some great racing action, we're running a 600-lap Enduro race on Saturday night (January 30th), and our Main events run on Sunday, January 31st. We'll be racing (practice/qualifying) all week, Tuesday through Sunday. If y'all wanna come check it out, we're just west of Disney off of US 192. We're racing from 5am til whenever we get done most nights...Sunday's schedule for the main event races is a lil more...friendly...LOL...

    Come check us out!

Hey Jimmy, What cars do you run? I used to race RC/10's. I think I still have 3 of them and probably enough parts to build 2 more. There used to be a dirt track in Sarasota and I raced an RC/10 with a sprint body. I also have a couple 1/2th scales and I have a gas 10th scale truck I used to race. I'd say its been the good part of 10 years since I got them out. They are probably junk, they are in my old barn. Bob...

I run pan cars (specifically built for oval) and Legends, although Legends are not running at the Snowbirds. It's basically a flat piece of graphite with suspension. My first real R/C race car was an RC10 with a dirt Late Model Corvette body on it.

Come and check us out ;-)

Those things are fun as hell. I have a 1/10th gas truck and another 1/10 electric truck. Always wanted to try the asphalt cars. We would go to Superior Hobbies parking lot and watch them run there when i lived in Winter Springs.

I wish I could Jimmy. I have 2 week ends off a year and one was this past week end and the other is the week before Christmas. I have a couple of those carbon chassis but I have RC/10 suspension on them. I'd suppose there are a lot better and lighter stuff available now. I tryed to get over to this show last year and wasn't able. I could probably go Sunday but its mostly the money for gas. Are you going to make the Modified reunion this year? Bob..

Yep, I'll be at the Reunion this year.

Bob - and pretty much everyone - this event will be available to watch online all week for free ;-) Not much free these days, but you can watch some great short track and road course racing action from the Snowbird Nationals for free. Just go to the link I posted once the race week gets under way. It should be up and ready by at least Wednesday of that week.

Would love to have some of y'all make it over here; we also have an open-wheel Modified class running, for you Whelen Modified Tour fans (Jerry ). Last year, there were three Richie Evans replicas...hard to tell 'em apart on the track, so they had to separate 'em in different heats

Most of our classes consist of what we (R/C racers) refer to now as "Nationwide style" bodies (to me, they look more like an asphalt Late Model body). We'll have two Truck classes and a CoT class. I'll be running in 17.5/TOUR Sportsman Truck. Actually got me a sponsor for this year's show; Windtunnel Racing Products out of Iowa sent me one of their chassis to run in the Truck class.

Y'all come check us out! SIX straight days of racing! Almost like New Smyrna

Oh - and Bubba - Superior's still racing; I believe they run on the first Sunday of the month. Superior's Web site: http://www.superiorhobbies.com Should be a link there for racing info at the shop as well. Superior's been the official hobby shop of the Snowbird Nationals for a few years now; they get two hotel rooms together and put in a temporary hobby shop *in* the rooms...LOL

RC racing a blast!!! I have a 1/10th nitro dirt latemodel; we race at my brother in-laws house. He built a dirt banked oval with about 5 to 7 of us racing. Haven't done it awhile but should start back in the spring.
