  • OPEN WHEEL GUYS!!! Listen up....

Jerry Binner organized a really awesome Open Wheel reunion 3 yrs. ago. We invited the pioneers of OW racing from the 50's and up. Hundreds have come to this reunion and it has been a huge success. Alot of these drivers come to Florida for the Daytona 500 and stay over there for the winter months. Alot came just for our reunion. See Jerry's post and you will be amazed at some of the names.
NSS has allowed these veterans to do 5 laps in the vintage cars that also come to the reunion!!!! It's an emotional thing to see these guys doing what they loved doing 40 or more yrs. ago. Some of the rivalry is still there too... lol but they usually hug anyways!
The RICHIE EVANS memorial race follows. So please mark your calendars and save February 12 for a trip to New Smyrna.. You won't be sorry. Maybe we can arrange pools so traveling won't cost so much.
Call me at 941-629-7451 or Jerry at 407-790-9724
Jim Higginbotham has been bringing his NAPA car... It's a beauty....
One of our regulars has been donating a white helmet that all the veterans and guests sign and at some point in the day it is raffled off to some lucky guest.

F~E~B~R~U~A~R~Y ....12, 2010...!!!! @ NSS ! It's Friday ! Will be posting more details as we go along!
HEY RICKLES...... can we have another STICKY for this awesome occasion. ;-) thanks.

Carol... Thanks so much for your help and enthusiasm.

Dennis... No problem man. Glad to hear you'll be there. Your stuff was a big hit, and I need to find more time to do some diggin'

Rex... you can't imagine how much I appreciate your help

Andy... You'll get a good dose of what FUN this sport was in it's best-of-times. You'll meet people you've never heard of, and people that you will find yourself saying someday "Wow... I MET that guy!"

                Interviews and videos!

Just got confirmation that Bob Culbertson will return to do a video of the days events. He said to mention he still has copies of last years video if anyone wants one. Hopefully Robert Howell will be there to do some interviews with us... The veterans LOVED it! I call them "veterans" in leiu of "old farts" but I think they'd rather be called old farts... lol They have had such colorful careers and due to health problems, age, and other things they had to park their beloved race cars. This reunion has given them a boost .... some time in the limelight and also some seat time for a few of them.
I've seen them hug each other and say how happy they are to be with guys they havent seen for 40 years. Bugsy Stevens was a young aggressive funny as hell guy when I watched him race at Norwood Arena in the 60's. Now he is an older guy that continues to make friends laugh! ALOT!.. add Leo "The Lion" Cleary, Gene Bergen, Bobby Pendergast and so many others and NSS is the theatre for "Best Years of Our Lives".....
Ron, Andy, Bob, Rex.... so happy you are coming.... We have one month to get this thing ready so Jerry and I can't tell you how much we appreciate your help... But just knowing you are there is enough! ;-) YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!! yep Jerry... I needed this kick start. I called Tony "the Tiger" Carreno and invited him to come and to make sure he drags a ton of our Open Wheel guys along. I think we are in for an awesome third year. One of the highlights for me is seeing DOUG HEVERON and his lovely wife. I love them so much and hardly ever get to see them. Joe and Lori Winchell also stop by...They are very special in my life... The Gimmlers, Wild Child and so many showed up!!! Hope someone brings the Barfields!!!
Another person I am so happy to see is Bobby Pendergast. His brother was the late Georgie Pendergast... Bobby was the person who started me with this racing obsession back in the 60's when he was delivering meat to my house thru a freezer plan. ;-) he talked so much about racing as he packed my freezer and kept trying to get me to go to Norwood. Once I went, i was hooked and went every Saturday night. He drives his coupe as the pace car for the vintage car laps!!!! Its a tear jerker.... happy tears...
I have to shut up and get some sleep... carolwicks aka OZ

I should have the motor back together by then on the NAPA 15 Chevy. Been too cold to finish it here lately, but it's supposed to warm up here soon.
                  See youse all there...
