Another F1 driver coming to NASCAR

Nelson Piquet Jr announces his move to NASCAR today.

Interesting one, this. If you didn't know about it, he was dropped from his drive with Renault F1 last year for poor performance, and in response told the FIA that he was ordered to deliberately crash his car by his team bosses to cause a caution that allowed his team-mate to win a race. The resulting investigation ripped the Renault F1 team apart and saw massive suspensions from the sport for the team principal and other senior figures. He well and truly burned his bridges in F1, especially as he didn't really prove himself in his time racing in that series and seemed to be trading off his family name a little too much.

Somehow I doubt the NASCAR teams are fighting over his signature right now, especially given how he left F1. Looks like he'll go straight into the truck series.

I agree , we don't want him, Marcus Ambrose is said to be one of the most friendly Nascar drivers. and I read Lewis Hamilton and long time girlfriend Nicole of the Pussycat Dolls broke up. Andy your buddy Dan Wheldon lives here in St. Pete.

Nelson Piquet Jr would be a perfect member of any new 'living off the family name' series they decided to run. The only time anyone noticed him was in qualifying the week it was rumored he was being ditched by the time, and it was noticeable that the rookie who took his drive and had to enter his first race without a single testing session in the car due to F1's in-season testing rules was significantly faster than him right from the get-go.

'long time' as in they'd been together from the moment he became rich and famous...

Going to be interesting seeing him and Jenson Button in the same team next year though.
