Needless to say, we have all frozen our little butts off at one time or another in our beloved sunshine state. And yes, we do have a wet cold which makes it much worse than the New York cold or the Colorado cold. It is just about right now that I would give anything for a fireplace but most of the time in Florida, you only get to use them a few days out of the year. I knew a couple that would turn their a/c down to about 60 just to use their fireplace around Christmas. This reminds me of the first year I moved back to Florida from California and we had that hard freeze (89). I had iciles on my oak tree because back then I had water to air heat and the water hit the tree and boy was it pretty. Actually had the newspaper come and take pictures of it because it was so pretty.

But let's face it, when it is cold in Florida, IT IS COLD.

4 years ago or so at Bristol during the nationwide race when it started snowing in the middle of the race. Frozen bleachers and wet from all the snow we were throwing during the biggest snowball fight i have ever been in LOL

Snowball Derby this past year was pretty cold all week...especially the night of the Snowflake. We couldnt hardly stand on the top of our trailer because it was completely frozen over

And Speedweeks at NSS is cold every year

        I remember that...

A lot of people left early and few of the ones left were spotters for the teams. One of the spotters had me get right in front of them to help keep the wind off of me so I could enjoy the race.
I was there for that race, man it was cold. I remember we where colder that day then Alaska was according to the news report. We left the heat blazing when we left for that race as a friend drove up for it in a truck with a whole in the floor board, so he froze his feet and needed to sit with the heat on them for a couple of hours. The bad part or good depending on how you look at it, when we got back to the hotel it was 90 some degrees inside and we had to sit with the door open to make it liveable for a few hours. I miss trips like that, they make for some fun stories..

          Brunswick, Ga.
WoO race, may have been Hav-a-Tampa, I don't remember the year but it was before they started running the Super Bowl races, around 2000 maybe.
Me and my buddy, Larry, would go to the his truck during dead periods and warm up. I believe the frost on his truck was a 1/4 inch deep when we started to leave the track.

Old Yeller. I worked at Sandusky Speedway for years. I loved the hangover till about midway through it. Then you realize you are freezing. I worked it in the rain and snow. Hell we plowed 1 1/2 snow off track to race. I also flagged it to. What a mistake. Got hit by several snowballs.

Coldest in Fla. was 2006 at NS speedweeks. My god was it cold. I called back up to Ohio and it was warmer there.

Every race I go to in Florida when I forget how cold it gets. The fact that is is 28 up in S.C the humidty is 30% in Florida it is 45 and 80% and you FREEZE because of the wet.

We have sleet right now on Merritt Island, baby, it is cold. Hope everyone stays warm and if you know of someone out in this or has no heat, please help them. We got to stick together in days like this.

Foe me it was Oxford,Maine in early 90's.It had snowed a few days before but they cleared the track and pit area but there was snow in the infield and everywhere else.A close second was a Busch race at Louden,NH. a few years ago it was in May but it was about 35 degrees and drizzling.I would run up to the fence every time the jet dryers went by.There must be something to the humidity theory because 20 degrees here feels colder than below zero in Maine to me.

For me it was Orange County Speedway in Middletown,NY for the Eastern States 200 (1975??). Afternoon temps were in the low 50's to upper 40's. After a serious delay in the program, i think the feature started around 9 or 10pm. My toes were numb and i huddled up to my dad for warmth. I think the temp was well into the low teens by mid race and single digits by race end.

2 years ago at NSS, it was pretty cold. I remember when i left, the property down the road has an electric sign out front and it said 19 degrees at about 1am.

I use to live about 2 hours away from Middletown. We use to go to the Eastern States weekend every year. One year in the late 80's, we had about 8 inches of snow at home. We called and they said they were racing. So we headed out. We went less than 20 miles and the roads were so bad and it was snowing so hard, that we decided to turn around and go home. It turned out that they did race and we had tickets that were worth nothing. After that we started to camp there for the weekend. But I was warm.

No they don't Bob. It is warmer in Fountain, Colorado where my daughter lives than here. However, Ft. Drum, New York, where she did live, is in the - degrees. But my babies (4 legged) will tell you exactly how cold it is here - too cold to go outside right now. They are all cuddled up in my bed - dogs and cats.

I guess we could switch this and think of the hottest we have ever been and I would have to say USA International in Lakeland. It was hot, hot, hot there from all the asphalt and concrete, miserable always in the summer. And then it was cold in January for Speedfest. Just proves, there is no perfect place to be winter or summer.
