who was there?
I remember it well.. robby smith was sharing a shop with me at the time, he was running the TBARA when they were running dirt and asphalt together. We rolled over there for the night of the show, Robby won the TBARA main event that night, we also signed him up to run with the outlaws. He made the A main and i believe finished 6th or 7th. I do remember that the methonol was hard on the eyes due to the poor ventalation in the dome.. it was quite an exciting show but i dont think that they ever got the crowd that they expected, and i dont think that robby ever got his winnings till this day..

I also remember it, Steve Kinser won the first night and Sammy Swindell was the winner the final night. It was a week of firsts for the World of Outlaws Feb 10th and 11th they ran Punta Gorda on the pavement with Dave Blaney winning both races. I don't know about the Punta Gorda race but the Dome race the promoter left with the money and no one got paid.I don't take anything written on the internet seriously, neither should you.

I was there for the Friday show... rained like hell all the way to St. Pete. But it was very cool knowing it would NOT rain out!
From accounts I've read over the years, the promoter eventually paid the first night purse, but nobody ever got paid for the Saturady program.
Remeber, they were also supposed to have a Sprint Car match race with some of the Nascar guys? I remember that Ernie Irvan and Harry Gant were 2 of them. They were flown there from Daytona testing, and when the checks were not waiting for them, they flew back out of town.
Too bad it wasn't successful enough to have become an annual deal.
That race also brings back bittersweet memories for a different reason. My buddy Mike, who went with me that night, was murdered by his wife exactly one week later. I never saw him again after the ride home that night.
