They were letting them run if they were v-6. But tech man says for next year there will be more fwd cars at NSS and metric cars will only be running 305's and they are supposed to be firm on that and also no camaros or firebirds at all no matter what motor is in it
Bill Loomis he was dq'ed for 60 series tires on a 2001 v-6 camaro witch originally came with 245/50/16
"60 series" has nothing to do with the tire width. from the information given, i have no idea if Loomis was running a wider or narrower tire but it probably was taller than stock.
"50 series" is the sidewall height as a ratio of the tread width; ie - 50% of 245 millimeters
if Bill was running 245/65-16 tires he would have the same tread width as stock ( 245 millimeters ) and he'd be legal on the profile ratio but the tire would be ~3" taller. don't know if that would fit in his wheel wells.
witch is much wider then what he is told is has to run. don't make sense.
whether or not it makes sense doesn't have anything to do with what's in the rule book.
it also doesn't have anything to do with what's enforced. they've been making us change tires on all the Probes and MX-6's and i'm sure Jim has to swap different tires onto his Acura TL in order to make that legal.
otherwise, i'd be running 225/50-16s.
as far as it goes, i think the rule does make sense. i don't know if they want to add a tread width rule or not. if they did, they'd need to allow wider tires on larger cars.
