That last chance race was exciting. Chris Davidson was doing his augie grill impersonation on the way back thru the field - only to discover that he wasn't in 4th but a lap down. He almost put colangelo into the field though as when he slammed into Helton, he opened the door for Jeremy at the line who fell short by about a car length.

I cant say enough how cool this event is. If you are a fan save your nickles and make it up here at least once.

I went once, in 2006, and there is no way you can describe how cool of an event this is. It's not just a race, it's a HAPPENING. I've been to Nashville for a few All American 400's, but this is so much better.

Every race fan, whether you prefer Asphalt or Dirt, should make this trip at least once. The entire city of Pensacola realizes the importance of this event and they support it. The newspaper has it own complete section of the paper dedicated to the race (I think it was 32 pages the year I went)... TV stations do Helicopter traffic reports. Most businesses in town have "Welcome Race Fans" signs, and they actually Thank you for coming to their city.

I hear the City of Knoxville (Iowa) is much like that, but it's the only other "short track" that has that kind of local support that I know of.

Now that I think about it, not only should every FAN go to The Derby, every Track Owner & Promoter should go too. 5 Flags does a LOT of things right in running a big event, and most people involved in a racetrack could learn quite a few things, and get maybe impliment some of the ideas.

One of the best Short track events in the country. As for Asphalt... probably # 1.

This was going to be my first time there but it is a good thing that I did not go since dad had emergency surgery tonight on his hip that was broken. But I hope to go next year if possible. Sounds like a great time but family always comes first.
