  • Tony Stewart, Lakeland??

Any truth to the rumor Tony Stewart and others are considering buying the old Lakeland Speedway? I hear the track itself is still there. Seems on the surface at least like a good idea to me.

    Its Gonna Be a THREE-FER

The latest and hottest news is Tony boy is putting his money up for not only Lakeland, but St. Augustine and Sunshine Speedway... that way, he will have tracks COAST to COAST in Florida and one in the MIDDLE...
All three still have ASS-FAULT down, just need to hook up the beer kegs and bring in a flagman (Annc Dave already signed on to be the mouth piece at all three locations...

Shirts on sale now - ORDER YOURS EARLY - $15 each or 2 for $25 (if you send money orders to me by the 10th of this month - DON'T DELAY - supplies are more limited than you will ever know... send money order TONIGHT...

Hell, I'm so excited I'll make a better deal...I will sell you 25 (that's right - 25) shirts for $100 bucks (that's only $4 stinking bucks per shirt)..but you need to put that money order in the mail TONIGHT...

Now that's the latest on Tony and restarting tracks...can't beat it with a stick son!
Thank a Police Officer for what they do........... OSF:

There's not enough left of that place to consider using it as a racetrack again. The track surface and walls are there, but eveything else looks like a bomb leveled the place.

As for Tony Stewart, he has been rumord to be buying tracks all over the country. With the exception of Eldora, NONE of it is true.

It is kind of interesting to see who HAS become involved in track ownership though:

The Blaney family (Sharon Speedway, PA)
          Tony Stewart (Eldora Speedway, OH)
Ray Evernham (East Carolina Speedway (NC)
David Ragan's father (Watermelon Capitol Speedway, GA)
          Ken Schrader (I-55 Speedway, MO)
plus, I believe that Matt Kenseth's father bought a track in Wisconsin this year (possibly Madison Int'l...?)
Junior was involved in a track (don't recall) as was Rusty Wallace (Iowa Speedway, IO)

                Macon, IL

Stewart, Schraeder, and K Wallace have an interest in Macon Speedway.
1/5 mile dirt. My old home track from many many moons ago.
Understand they have spent a lot of money improving the old track and show up there once in a while to produce a big gate.
Man, I miss Wib Spaulding and Gene Henson.

and the most expensive part of an asphalt track to build would be ... what?

                          that's not the point.

the fact is that as long as the asphalt and walls are in good shape, more than half the expense is already paid for. which is a huge head start over starting from having to clear forest off of a couple hundred acres and start trucking fill dirt in.

not to mention the hassle with trying to permit a new track in the first place. Lakeland is also cheek by jowl with a drag strip and a mud bog and it's pre-existing. not likely to get much complaints from neighbors what with everything else going on there.

also a consideration, Lakeland is still in good enough shape to rent out for test sessions. it can make you money while you rebuild the facilities.

sounds possible, i have no doubt Tony Stewart probably could "scrape up" the money.I know I for one loved the place and would seem great to have a track re-open instead of close. Seems like it should be a great place for a track. Also, i agree, look at the money could be made in just "cup teams" practicing. Of coarse that can end at a moments notice, but then again, what cant?

Don't get your hopes up. IF the zoning has already changed and with todays local politics it may be more trouble then its worth.
