  • Spendinig Thanksgiving at the hospital

My dad fell early this evening at home and broke his arm and tore a ligement in his knee. He was in such bad pain that the hospital kept him and would not let us bring him home. He broke his bad arm, his writing arm, and it is made up of mostly pieces of bones and pins since when I was little he fell off a press box at the local high school football field and broke his arm in 23 places. He refused to let them take it off and spent the next 3 years in and out of hospitals with it.

This is not how I wanted him to spend Thanksgiving but with the pain he is in and the fact that we can't get him to a doctor until Friday, I guess that is the best place for him. But it hurt alot to leave him there. So tomorrow, I will spend Thanksgiving at Cape Canaveral Hospital with my dad. I would never want him alone on Thanksgiving especially in the hospital.

But I have thanked God over and over for not breaking his hip or his leg. He may need a wheelchair for awhile and he may have a hard time autographing all the books he has to but he is still here and I am forever grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and when you are home tomorrow with all your family and loved ones, think about us in the hospital with my dad. We will take Thanksgiving to him and hopefully he won't be in too much pain. I had to almost threaten the nurse to give him something and they I had to beg for some water for him. I thought they were there to help the patient but they sure weren't in a hurry to help my dad. And everyone knows me, I don't wait around, I go get help right away.

I hope everything goes well for your dad.I am in the boat with you as I had to take my wife to Shands in Gainesville for the second time in less than a month last night because she is having heart problems.I am thankful for the nurses and doctors that will be giving up their Holiday to provide care and comfort for those that are less fortunate.Happy Thanksgiving to all and enjoy your time with family and friends!

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulties this Thanksgiving... I hope all goes well and things work out... Just take a moment to say thanks that you are able to spend the time together whether it be in a hospital or at a dinner table... My best to a speedy recovery to both...

Yes I too am sorry you both have to spend Thanksgiving in the Hospital but As Duane said, be thankful you are together. About 10 years ago, I got my foot in a lawn mower and spent Thanksgiving in the hospital. That year was special for me, my family spent It with me in the hospital. We will pray for your loved ones today. Most of my family will be here today and give thanks together. May God bless you all give you a beautiful day no matter where you are. Bob..

I know how blessed I am to have both my parents and to still be able to have them around for the holidays. So I do count my blessings every single day and thank God for letting me still have them. I am sure this is not how dad wanted to spend Thanksgiving but he was in way too much pain to even try and bring him home right now. They suggested when he does come home, he needs to sleep in his easy chair so as to not move around alot with his arm. So today we will get his wheelchair down from the attic for him and he can wheel himself around the house if needed.

My dad is very important to me so I thank everyone for the kind words and prayers.

This will be the first year my 25 year old Daughter will not be spending Thanksgiving with the family. This is her first year as a pediatric nurse and she will be spending it with very ill children at the hospital taking care of them. Although we will miss Her we are all very proud of her and what she does.

Your Dad is very lucky to have a Daughter like you Jane. I hope everything comes out ok for you.

This has been a very rough day for me. I am totally worn out and came home and colapsed after having Thanksgiving dinner with mom. Dad is is alot of pain and they pretty much have him knocked out because if he moves, he cannot stand the pain. Since it is his bad arm he broke and the one that is only pieces of bones and pins, it is going to be a long recovery. Right now they are not saying much at all about his knee except he will need surgery to repair the tear.

But I have thanked God all day for dad not breaking his hip when he feel. He hit the hard tile floor and evidentally tried to catch himself with that bad arm since it is his right side that is hurt. It is very, very hard to see him in this much pain but thank goodness, they are trying to help.

My Thanksgiving has been very stressful and yet very blessed. I am thankful that I still have both my parents and I know how blessed I am to have them. And I am thankful for all my caring and loving friends who did care about me and my family. Those who know me, know how much my parents mean to me and how they are my touch stones in life.

I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving today and thank you for being there for me when I needed a shoulder to lean on.

Jane, you and your parents are in my prayers right now. We were minus another family member at the table this year so I tried my best to help the family through it. My mother-in-law lost her mom last summer and her dad this summer and since her daughter was out of town driving OTR truck with her husband, I had her over this year. She did very well and enjoyed spending time with my mom who she even chauffered over to my house which made it easier on me. I was thankful to have them over.
