This looks like a lot of fun. I'm making some calls to put a team together. Something has a good thing going! They charge an average of $1000. per car entered then only pay three spots. The last three races they had over 100 entries. Try that at a short track and see what happens.
"At each race, the Winner on Distance gets $1500; the winner of the Index of Effluency receives $1000; and the People's Choice socks away $500"
Am I wrong here or are they bringing in 100K an event and paying out $3000?
Its really no different than SCCA where everyone pays to race and they payout nothing.
Makes you wonder why short track racers complain so much about payouts. THe only real difference is that the short tracks are drawing a paid admission from fans (at least some of them) and we do race every week just about. WHen it comes down to it, it is all just a hobby. Maybe they are smarter than all of us....I have to believe that the crash a rama events are similar. I am pretty sure they don't have any significant payouts. And they draw close to 8000 people. I have also heard that NSS brings in enough revenue during speedweeks to pretty much cover the year of racing. I guess basically the trick is to find some niche that will draw the people to see cheap entertainment.
It ain't all about the winning at LeMons. Hell, you get paid in NICKELS! It's more about getting out of the house, partying all weekend and doing a little road racing. They're also REALLY strict when it comes to contact. They'll black flag you and put you in the penalty box and most of the time make you do something crazy. I found one picture where they duct taped two drivers to a pole to see how they liked REAL contact. One guy had to eat a can of vienna sausages and a moon pie before he could go back on the track.
"It ain't all about the winning at LeMons"
There ya go they're not promoting racing, there promoting a good time.
"They're also REALLY strict when it comes to contact"
Maybe, maybe not that doesn't bother me. Tear up my car and well lets just say I believe in two eyes for an eye.
There's plenty of contact in this video. These dudes are having a ball. Watch the video at :58 seconds in.
supposedly, they are having to turn away half the applicants at some of these events.

After the race a few weeks ago a LeMons virgin went on the forums and complained because he recieved BS penalty laps. His "$500" maxima "came" with Tein racing coilovers so the judges penalized them. He tried pullling out all of his documentation and the judges were'nt buying it. All he did was whine like a baby and cry even more on the forums page. So, as a roundy rounder for 20 years I had to JUMP on the wine and cheese racing, SCCA, auto crossing BASTIGE!
We're putting on our dark suits, ties, fake blue tooths, gold watches etc. and going to the race as Whiine aand Cheaat Raacing. We'll have briefcases and boxes full of fake documentation and we're gonna try to make our Saab look like a Mercedes or BMW.
We're mounting of couple of Nitros bottles, big fake airfilter on the hood and whatever else we can come up with.
Also, anytime the judges ask us a question, we'll tell him to hang on a minute we're on the phone.
Any other ideas to add to our theme would be appreciated!
Since your going for the "professional" look, everytime an official asks a question about the car, tell him to have "his" people contact your "people" to set up a meeting. If you really want to mess with them, as your telling them this, hand them a business card with all your teams information on it.
