  • Friends in Racing

You know I am amazed at many things in life, both good and bad... The cost of living for a very modest family of 2... The lack of common sense, that the American population has, no I can't say that because I have lived in other countries and it is there too... The cost of a case of beer! The cost of a pack of cigarettes, (ooh I said a bad word you tree huggers)!!!!

The cost of a new truck, or for that matter a USED Truck!!! The great amount of whining that takes place, your not 2 and this "Ain't" the DAMN playground!!!

To be honest, I am amazed at some of the very great people and friends I have been around in racing... Last night I was reminded of just how awesome they are...

It was great to see Boneman and Edm... Hope to have to see them and other people like them for a long time coming... Boneman, thanks alot and see you later....

Racing brings out the best and worst in people. Some people get so involved they forget who they are and where they come from. Almost every week there is a new story that someone didn't pay their bill or completely flaked out. People that you would never expect to put racing before friends and family. Its really easy to carried away and to be completely honest there have been times that I could not concentrate on work or family because I was thinking about my next race, or how I was going to buy that next part rather then pay that nagging medical bill. I know almost every racer can relate. I noticed when things like this happen its time to take a break and regroup. Too many people get out of racing all together because they put themselves in a hole, burn bridges and loose all of their racing friends.

On the other side of the coin you have people who truly love racing. Guys like Flaraceguy, and Mseay just to name a couple. They may not be able to afford it themselves but they are at the track every single week helping anyone they can. For most of my adulthood I was this guy, working on cars all week for little or no money looking forward to Friday and Saturday night then paying my own way in sometimes with pennies (women in the booth loved that one) just to be part of racing. These are the type of people that support racing as much if not more then the racers themselves.

I love racing and my racing family both asphalt and dirt. I believe that local short track racing is the heart of racing and if people don't support it, it will be gone and then NASCAR will lose the heartbeat of what they have become.
Although if you want to see a real race (not NASCAR) go to your local track and then you will see real racing.

Ned Jarrett once told me in the pits at Daytona that I was watching "Real" racing and I told him that was a lie. He forgot where he came from and it was not NASCAR but good old short track racing where men and women put their blood, sweat and tears into the car and did not have a team working on it. Racing is the guys and gals who get dirty working on that car and juggle to buy that new part. They support their families and if something is left, they go racing.

Racing has been a HUGE blessing in my life and filled it with many, many friends that I would not trade for the world. We may not see each other often but we know that if the chips are really down, we will be there for each other. And I have seen that over and over in my lifetime in racing.

Thank you to everyone who has passed thru my life because of racing. I love you dearly and we will always be family in one way or another.

Support your local track for tomorrow, it might not be there!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, good friends will stand outside the window at dennys laughing at you while you are still sitting at the table sleeping.

I quit fishing because there was no one handing out money at the docks when i got back. Why did you quit racing?

But Michael, fishing is so much fun also. I love to fish and shrimp and no, I don't get any money for it but when the shrimp are running and they did this year, I can share them with everyone I love and that is better than getting money. Plus this year I was able to get quite a few blue crabs and also shared them especially when my brother was here from California. Only bad thing, I have to pick them for everyone because no one wants to pick crab which takes hours.

Want to go fishing soon. Heard the snook were running and hopefully the flounder will be soon. But if you ever get the urge to fish again, come on over here to Merritt Island and we will go.
