Since Ocala returned to dirt is this race history? It was the best open wheel modified race in the state and I hope some other track picks it up. It brought in quite a few guys from out of state, some as far away as Indiana last year and was a blast to be a part of.

Blue Grey modified race?

The Blue Grey is not going anywhere. Like some other annual events at Ocala Speedway, it is in the process of being reinvented for dirt. That means more cars, better competition, and many more opportunities to make it bigger and better than it ever was before. More information will be coming later so stay tuned.

If you're talking those IMCA type mods you can probably draw a decent field but if it's the DIRT mods out of NY-NJ-PA, you may find yourself with a short field. Good luck, whichever way you go.
And on that "remove or not remove" the pavement thread. I think both Devil's Bowl in VT and Malta, NY left their pavement down when they returned to dirt and I don't think they've had any problems because of it.

To Moonie The "loonie"
Your opinions are worth about as much as your spelling and punctuations....
I have a dirt sportsman converted to an asphalt sportsman.......and now goin' back to dirt. A certain loss of cars is expected, but a bigger gain is also expected. Most NASCAR drivers do dirt in their off time. Several own dirt tracks.
------JIM--------RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.

Who owns the race?

I was not aware that Ocala Speedway owned the rights to the name "Blue Grey". If another asphalt track like Citrus or Bronson wants to have a "Blue Grey" race for the asphalt cars that have run at Ocala in the past, I'm sure it would get a great deal of support locally. For that matter, the Powell Memorial has always been an asphalt race and I wouldn't think that the Powell family would desert the drivers that have supported it year after year. So maybe it could be run on both dirt and asphalt.

Hey moonie how about giving me a call at the track about the employees. My name is Mike, 352-622-9400.
Deman951, your right the Blue/Grey was a good modified race for us and the mod drivers out there. The guys didn't come from Indiana and Ohio because it was called the Blue/Grey though. They came because a $5000.00 to win Mod race was advertised up there and a lot of letters we're sent out. There's nothing stopping anyone from running a 5,10,20,$50,000. to win race of their own and just promoting it.
As far as the Dirt type mods they would be UMP. The event will be ran in conjunction with Volusia during speedweeks either at the start or end. They average 80-90 mods a day for $1200.00 to win.Last edited by The Ocala Speedway; 12-21-2007, 02:46 AM.

Okay I didn't know if it was one of those races with a long history that attracted them just by name. I apreciate the effort you took to get them to come it was always a fun race to attend and be a part of. Their is no reason for this thread to get nasty it was just a question guys, although I didn't like the better competition comment. I know you what you meant BJ it just didn't sound good to the guys that were there and tried their best to put on a good show. Last year was a great race with most of the field being fast enough to win. I enjoyed being a part of it!Originally posted by The Ocala Speedway View PostDeman951, your right the Blue/Grey was a good modified race for us and the mod drivers out there. why is gray grey
Just out of curiosity, why is the spelling of grey, with an e, and gray, with an a, both correct? That's as bad as stopping at a drive-thru.
BTW, I believe Fulton, NY left their pavement down also. Could be wrong though. My photo site: http://www.rewingphotos.com

Your correct Fulton Speedway is a good example of a track with clay on top of asphalt. Check out their big Mod race the Victoria 200, $25,000.00 to win. www.fultonspeedway.comLast edited by The Ocala Speedway; 12-21-2007, 04:27 PM.

No one was attempting to get "nasty" with anyone. My statement was that the Blue/Grey can and will be adapted for dirt, and it will become something far better than it was on pavement. The same holds true for the Powell Memorial. If the Powell family was not in favor of the race being adapted for dirt late models then it would no longer be at Ocala Speeday. But the Powells are in favor of the change and support it, so change it will!
As for the competition aspect, you may feel like that was some sort of slam but it isn't. Dirt is the great equalizer in racing. Dirt races feature more passing, more evenly matched competitors no matter how much $$$ a team spends, and therefore a more competitive race that is more exciting to watch. I know the asphalt guys don't agree with that theory and that's ok. I'm just stating what I observe to be true. No one is forcing anyone else to agree with me.
