If these two pictures don't bring a tear to your eye, I don't know what will... Just to know that Tommy Hopkins will now get to live a reasonably normal life made the whole weekend even more special...
The most touching time of the whole two days was when the gentleman brought up the Earnhardt quilt for us to auction off on Saturday. He's dying of cancer and could barely breathe by the time he got to me in the tower, but he wanted to do something for Kayleigh... The man who spent $100 to get that quilt was Lloyd Davis... He's the older gentleman who brings his little dog "Boss" to the races each week... Actually, it was the first time he'd been at the track since October. Lloyd had a pair of vein transplants and they nearly lost him on the operating table twice... Even though he was not feeling well, he was there to support the event and spent money he probably really didn't have to spend...
In watching the crowd, I know there were a lot of folks who never left their seat except to get more beer or nachos... Hopefully they bought some souvenirs or raced the Sprint Car simulators or at least bought raffle tickets...
There were a lot of people that really stepped up to the plate like David Leeper, Mike Murphy, Todd McCreary, George Gorham's group, Glen Rhodes, Fast Times Productions, Doug Webb, Dallas Ingram and many more that I'm probably missing...
The weather really screwed things up and a lot of sponsors really didn't get their due, especially the lap sponsors... I never got a list of those or we would have definately given them a plug...
I know Joe Linebarier and I sounded like we were working for some PBS station, but our goal was to help out the Helmicks... I think when Rick Bristol announces the final tally... you will be amazed...
Finally, a big thank you needs to go out to Jane Smith... She was put in a position that she didn't want to be in yet took the responsibility to make sure the back gate was run as efficiently as possible... Where would we be without Jane???
Again, thanks to the 37 truck racers, their crews, all of the support classes, all of the officials who donated their time, Sandy Nerone for going the extra mile on her final weekend in the "kitchen" and all the fans for supporting this fine event which will be even bigger and better in 2008...

To Rick Bristol...
Rick, you are one of the people who make me proud to be part of the "RACING FAMILY"... you are a most unselfish human being and your heart is solid gold. I know you had some help with this and those people also deserve a note of praise. The amount you guys collected is phenominal! Awesome! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and I know some little child will be helped by you next year! You are what being a Christian is all about! 'LOVE ONE ANOTHER!"
Proud to call you my friend!
