FASCAR Welcomes Two New Members to the FASCAR Family!

New Smyrna, FL (November 2, 2009)
Former Southern Automobile Racing Association (SARA) Owner and Promoter Rick Day will be joining Columbia Motorsports Park (CMP) and FASCAR according to a recent announcement by Robert Hart, owner of both organizations.

Day will begin his new duties in Mid November, 2009

Columbia Motorsports Park (CMP), located in Lake City, Fl is part of the Florida-based stock car racing promotions company FASCAR. Along with CMP, FASCAR also owns and promotes New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld.

“I will be handling the promotions and General Manager duties at CMP to bring it back to one of the premier Motorsports facilities in North Florida ,” Day said. “But I am really looking forward to the challenge Robert has given me. Together with the fine staff at CMP we will make it an outstanding motorsports park.”

Day has an extensive background in motorsports including owning and managing a successful touring asphalt series (The Southern Automobile Racing Association) which included Open Wheel Modifieds, Late Models and Trucks in the Southeast for a number of years and, more recently, managing all three United States Racing Association touring series – the USRA Super Late Model Series, the USRA Modified Series and the USRA Truck Series. While in Texas he also was the Race Director for Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle Texas as well as the Texas Super Racing Series Late Model Series.

“Rick Day is a great addition to the FASCAR Family, he has a great deal of local and national racing knowledge and we are indeed fortunate to be able to bring Rick into our organization. Rick will play an important role in rebuilding Columbia Motorsports Park” said Robert Hart.

FASCAR also announced another new member of the FASCAR Family, writer Andy Sandall who will be writing weekly articles for both New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld. A native of England, Sandall has a passion for Auto Racing that truly comes across in his writings.

“We are very pleased that Andy has agreed to help out at both tracks” said Kim Brown, New Smyrna Speedway General Manager, “From the first time I read one of Andy’s articles, I felt like I was sitting in the stands watching the race live.”

Sandall’s articles will be distributed via the FASCAR Email Newsletter system each week as well as appearing in the Weekly Souvenir Program at both tracks.

For more information about FASCAR and Columbia Motorsports Park, please visit their websites at www.FASCAR.org or www.ColumbiaMotorsportsPark.com.

      Welcome aboard !

I had the oppotunity to work with Rick Day at Sunshine Speedway for several years when he was the head scorer there. Rick will be helping us at the Charity Truckers 200 this year. I know Rick loves racing and will work hard at CMP to try to rebuild it. I wish him luck and will help in any way I can.

I am also glad to hear that Andy will write the stories for the tracks, he has a wonderful talent for making it so real. He will be a great addition and we look forward to reading the stories going forward. Andy if you need anything from me please let me know.

As we look to the end of this season, but really look to a new year with a hope of much better times for everyone !

Andy has only been on this board for a few weeks and I am truly amazed at his writing style. It will be a great asset to FASCAR and the Florida racing scene. I hope you continue with the same style Andy, and best of luck. You remind me of the writers I used to read in the racing papers up north, before the internet.
I've also heard positive things about Rick Day, although I've never met him and I wish him the best of luck also.

The days of the old SARA sportsman late model series was awesome. 30 -40 cars every race and the rules stayed the same year after year ( wow theres a thought). Did a great job in making modifieds affordable to race also. Let him go and it should work out well.

I've known Rick Day over the years and have seen him do real well where ever he lands. If anyone can turn Columbia around and be as sucessful as it should be, RICK DAY can do it.

That's a great track and it would be a shame to see it go to the track junk yard in the sky (or where ever they go).
Thank a Police Officer for what they do........... OSF:

I'm now wondering how much my wife bribed the people at FASCAR to arrange for this, knowing it was the most likely way to prevent me getting into one of the cars and racing. I think she can see the glint in my eye when I talk about having a go in them.

In all seriousness, I'm very honored, and equally surprised to have been asked but genuinely did have to consider it carefully for a week or so once I knew they were going to ask me about it. It helped that the first thing Kim Brown said to me when she asked me was that what they wanted was exactly what I was writing on here, with no concessions or changes. That helped a lot.

Actually, they did ask me to make one concession - I had to promise to stop writing 'chequered' and remember to put 'checkered'. It'll be tough, but I'll give it a go...

And I thank you all for your encouragement since I came on this site in this. I really did only post that first post thanks to Rex's nudging, and the first 'report' I wrote was just the only way I could think of to get across all the fun things I'd seen at the track the night before. That anyone enjoyed reading it slightly amazed me, but if they're keeping people updated with the news and encouraging others to come out to the track and see the fun themselves then I'm more than happy to continue and help out.

And if any drivers out there want to guarantee they get a mention in the reports, then my writing so far gives you a big clue how to do it - you'll notice I give equal time to William Hindman driving with arm out of the window or Billy Cuddy thanking his wife and daughters for changing out his tranny as I do the mid-race overtaking battle for 7th place. Do something funny or that stands out and the odds are that it'll get included!

Thanks again, everyone - I just hope I can do the drivers and fans justice and get some more people in the stands.

why, you wanna drive? or are you just trying to tell us racers how lucky we are not to be getting our yankee doodle butts kicked by a real man from the British Isles?

All I'm saying is - just wait until next year's L'il 500 Night...

(Actually, I can't lose - if I'm useless around the oval I'll just claim that if it was a road course the results would be totally different!)

I too have worked with and around Rick Day at Sunshine and the old SARA days and I think he will be a great addition. I am also glad to hear that Andy will be blessing us with his skills on a weekly basis. I want to thank Mark for all the updates, newsletters and everything he has done and I think that combined it is all a big step in the right direction. Last but not least, Kim keep up the great job.
I can't wait until Andy gets his first taste of the Mods during Speedweeks. He will get sore hands reporting on 9 nights (or 8 nights and a day as it will be this year) of action...

I can't wait until I have to tell my boss I need to leave work early for 8 consecutive days, right about when we're ramping up to install our big spring blockbuster exhibit!

What I'll need is some of the museum's members to put some pressure on her to allow it! If only...

                          Well.....

everyone knows I have a retired NASCAR ride-a-long car. Maybe at some event I can show you why we drive these things.
There have been a lot of screamers during a good fast ride. Wonder if you'll be one too.

Sounds great! I did once drive a vehicle with 1,400hp, so I don't scare too easily...

Oh Lordy Lordy, another one to attempt to beat all of us... Ok Andy... Keep that up, the Boneman and I will send Frass and AB195 over to your house to talk to you... We were figuring that to get rid of them will take at least 5 years and Bankruptcy due to the Beer bill that you will endure...
