  • Tony Stewart announcement coming this weekend.

Our man on the scene up in Concord, NC is telling us that there is a big announcement coming on Saturday and that it is Tony Stewart starting his own sprint car series, pulling his cars from WoO and going with Hoosier tires. This has been a rumor for a little bit, so anything is possible, and we could be wrong, but we got a semi-confirmation from someone that would know.

Maybe he'll buy the dirt track at Charlotte and show them how to prep the track. Heard there were several wrecks, hurt drivers and fans there last night and they had to cancel the feature race because the drivers refused to race on it and will run it tonight.

World of Outlaws Topless Showdown Postponed
The World of Outlaws Topless Showdown presented by Hungry-Man has been postponed until tonight after qualifying for the World of Outlaws World Finals. Officials made the decision to postpone the race after several on-track incidents caused lengthy delays during heat races. Tickets for Wednesday night's show will be honored this evening. Gates open at 4 p.m. and opening ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m.

Rough track conditions resulted in four driver injuries at the Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway during last night’s World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Topless Showdown.
Chub Frank took a trip to the hospital and is reported to have broken bones around his eye.
Frank told DirtonDirt.com that he had “never been hit this many times on a racetrack with clods that big before” and that “we shouldn’t have been out there with no roofs on tonight.”
Tim Fuller and Clint Smith were also treated for injuries at the track. Jeff Cooke was knocked unconscious after his helmet shield was pierced during a heat race. He regained consciousness after being cut from his car and was sent to a local hospital.
The show will be run tonight after the already scheduled time-trials for the “World Finals” at Lowe’s. The track cited the track surface issues and late hours as the reason for the postponement.

On my first visit there, Billy Moyer was hit in the head with one of those dirt clods, and knocked him unconscious also. He still had his foot stomped on the floor when it happened, and wound up popping about a $40K motor. He recovered, but the motor was toast.

That's crazy, you would think with all the money at that track, and being in the middle of the south someone at that track would know what to do with that red clay and get that track right!!!

I've heard the new series is coming, they just didn't want to announce it at the WoO show. Maybe at PRI?
