          Richard Rowe

Want all to know how much I appreciate your kind words. This has been a hard time, as I really thought we had a little more time...it wasn't meant to be!!! Planning a Celebration of Richard's Life at DeSoto Speedway and will tell more when all is firmed up. They race Late Models 11-14-09, and feel this would be a good time. Again, will have more info later!! Appreciate hearing your memories!!
Going to research where his nickname of "Rabbi" came from..think I know!! Also,
later on he was called, "The Professor" and I think Fred Hawkins started that one. If anyone knows these answers or anything else they want to share, please do so!

Although I did not know your husband, I am very sorry for your loss. Thirty one years is a long time and I know it must really be hard for you. But please know you are in my prayers and if there is anything you need, please let me know.

              Nancy Rowe--
I am so sorry for your loss.
I had only met you two a couple of times at Desoto on some Sunday Afternoon shows down in the Garden under the grandstands, and struck up several converstions with you two back then. I had spewed forth some historical stuff, and Richard spoke right up, telling me all about the history of Raceways, downright schooling me on all Racetracks that used to be around. I had thought I knew some things, but no, he put me in my place, with his historical knowledge.
I don't know what to say, however again, I am sorry for your loss, and he surely will be missed.
              rog.

                  About Richard Rowe...

Sometime soon, after I've gotten together with Nancy and with her approval and input, I would like to write a little something about Richard on here so that many of you who never got to know him can get a better idea of this quiet and generous man who lived and loved short track Late Model racing. He really was a hell of a guy. And if you did know Rabbi, then your life was that much the richer for it.

                  He will be missed.

Amen to that Matt. I think I remember Richard from Saramana days, but I met him in the early 80's at Sunshine. I think Pletcher was driving his car. He was a good man and my life is richer from knowing him and Nancy. He will surely be missed. Bob..

                              Richard's nickname & pictures

Not sure I know how to put pictures on here...maybe someone else that does can. He had several car numbers over the years...lst.#9, which he raced at Saraman in Bradeton. Ron Radley, Tim Miller drove during this era. There was a beer stand in the pits and no women or children allowed and that was probably a good thing, then a 229 he raced at the Gate and Sunshine. Remember Larry Cliburn drove some then. The last was #74, remember Bobby Alexander shoe polished the #74 (1974) and it got freshened up over and over. This is when him a Dave Pletcher lst. raced together!! He and Dave Pletcher won the Eastern Seaboard Championship in the 89/90 season at Sunshine. The also tied for the Nascar Championship that year..the other guy won out due to racing two x's a week. Remember Billy Gill and Fenton, Jimmy Cope and the likes being the ones to beat.
