  • Just Wondering...

Just looking around at some racing websites and saw that the 2008 USCS schedule is up. They tentatively have only two dates in Florida (both at Volusia). Looks like April 26th & September 26th are the dates...Wonder how many dates the ASCS Rebel region will have in Florida? It will also be interesting to see the FSCA schedule for 2008.

Also did anyone see how well Ricky Stenhouse Jr & Patrick Sheltra ran in ARCA practice at Daytona this weekend?

I believe, but not sure, that Ocala Speedway is trying to get a date or two on the USCS schedule.
Not sure if ASCS pays better, or more incentives, but a few USCS regulars have jumped ship and went there instead. Kenny Adams, Bryn Gohn and TJ & Tom Winegardner come to mind. It sure didn't help the Volusia show last time, as the 2 series went head-to-head. Winegardner lives less than 30 minutes from VSP and Adams/Gohn have to tow right past the VSP exit to race in Screven, Ga (I think it was). There isn't enough of those cars around to have 2 series going against each other, even if it was different states.
Usually, the East Bay show in October brings a good field, but this year being a Rebel Region show, even their field was way down from the past.

Working against each other is hurting both sides. Maybe they need to do some co-sanctioning, or maybe some 2-day shows with one night paying ASCS points and the next night paying USCS points. Both sides would benefit, as well as the drivers, fans and tracks.

I was at EB for the Nov. races, and didn't even stay the second night. It was nothing but a local show. I don't know if the problem with the State of Florida had anything to do with the lack of quality cars or not, but it was very disappointing to me. ASCS has to many regions and not enough cars, and the USCS doesn't have enough of anything to make a good show since the top drivers left. billy

Keep in mind the issue of the fuzz hassling out of state haulers coming across the border. This is a big issue with people towing in out of state. I know the USCS was taking a hard look at Florida dates for this very reason.

Don't forget, the Crate Late Models at East Bay brought 74 cars... most of them across the border. I don't think it's that big of an issue, as long as they understand the rules and play by them.
Also, I didn't hear of a single story of a team being hassled or turned away at the Florida border either.

I know the USCS had races the same weekend as the ASCS races at East Bay. I don't remember exactly where the races were held but they had a good car count with some WoO drivers. The other thing you have to remember is that many of the people in charge of the ASCS Rebel Region left the USCS. So what you have right now is a CART / IRL fued where no one wins!...Billy that second night Kenny Adams, Matt Tiffany & Danny Martin Jr. were worth the price of admission.

Haudfan, we have a partial schedule up on www.racefsca.com It isn't complete yet as Otto is still working on it and with various tracks. But at least it will give you an idea of some of our schedule.
