But some good racing, some good performances from the forum drivers, and a couple of incidents that raised a smile!
Firstly, thanks to everyone I met up with there for making me feel so welcome. It was really cool to get into the infield and say chat to Flraceguy, Boneman, ss29, MSeay10 and Edm even if it *was* freezing cold and all the light's had been turned off! And I'm now the proud owner of one the legendary Boneman whoopie cushions...
The racing was decent with some incidents, a lot seemingly caused by the cold weather (some real tear-up crashes in the late models with drivers struggling to get the power down on cold tires from restarts) and decent car counts in all but the OWMs.
Sportsman race was uneventful but had some overtaking, and Edm made the pass of the race to gain a place late on by setting up the #10 on the second turn to dive under him going into the 3rd.
Superstocks was the usual banging and crashing, but did anyone else notice the #3 came dangerously close to being lapped by the pace truck on the white flag lap at the start? It was barely over the start line by the time the pace truck peeled off into the pits!
Late Models had the most incidents, starting with the #55 spinning off during the warm-up laps, and a big crash before they could even take the green flag for the first lap that nearly took the race sponsors own car out! Plenty more passing, crashing and lead changes all the way through, with the only down side being MSeay's #10 retiring early with a very sickly engine.
Ministocks race was a good one, with the #81 spinning out on the first turn and nearly putting the Boneman into the wall. The race split into two or three packs, with the #81 eventually winning but Boneman working his way up from the back row to finish a great 5th. And all with a car he's not worked on and assured us was totally underpowered!
Strictly Stocks saw the #54 get away to a whole straightaway lead at one point, only to be hunted down by ss29, Hired Gun and the #59. The last few laps saw lots of doors and bumpers banging together, with the #54 going up into the wall and not being too happy about it.
So a good night for the forum's drivers all in all. Again, many thanks for making me feel so welcome!
