First, I did not start this thread to call anyone a cheat. I think gray area (s) have there place. But does a stock ZZ4 have a chance in the trucks. Why don't they check the motors?

They don't know how? It doesn't matter what motor you have, you cannot out race money or a 12 year old with a big front bumper. Just ask Mfer. The ZZ4s are pretty stout and should be competitive on smaller tracks. Or you can do what OJ says if you read between the lines and be competitive everywhere.Originally posted by tiresmok View PostThen why don't they tech the motors? Is it because of money from Daytona, or perhaps I should pour concrete. Just asking.

The only 12 year old this year in trucks was the young kid racer from Titusville. I seen him drive, he stayed out of trouble. I think he had a top ten, starting from the rear? You must be talking about someone that race last year? Perhaps the one that went through three trucks last year!

One good tech man...
.....well.....I don't have an analogy for tech men right now.
But....I'm sure it is increasingly hard to find someone willing to be the guy nobody likes at a race track. I have known TM's that were great guys and friendly with everybody and I have known some that were real pricks who had no friends at the track. Some who had no clue and some who knew the serial numbers off every crankshaft or clutch plate known to man.
The thing is this. A tech man has to be able to treat every racer exactly the same. Or at least be able to make a rational and educated decision on judgement calls. But most importantly.....the promoter or owner of the track has to leave him alone to do his job and not EVER interfere, undermine or overrule his decisions. There is way too much of that going on these days. That just totally cuts the TM's legs out from under him. Then no one respects him or his decisions. It's a thankless job that no one in their right mind WANTS to do anymore. Crate engines, seals, rule packages that allow for 50 different engine/weight rules, crazy overspending fathers who bought everything but a clue about racing.......I know I wouldn't want the job.
I don't know what the answer is about tech men. I do know I really don't see how the crate motor revolution has benefitted the short track racers across the country. Especially when builders are allowed to open them up and "massage" a few more HP's out of them.
Oh well.....see what happens when I'm bored at the fire station.

I can see where being a tech man can be extremely difficult. A few years ago I worked with a group of guys who brought out 2-3 cars every week. With those 2-3 cars we brought out 25-30 people in the pits EVERY WEEK. Mostly friends and family, more of a social gathering then anything. These guys were not real serious about racing or real competitive but where there more for the fun of it. I can honestly say that tech completely ran them off by not working with us (OVER TECHING) and telling us we cant park on the hill at Nss where all of our friends and family were watching the races from. They finally quit racing all together solely because the frustration of unfair tech process.
Sometimes its a line between common sense and the rule book.

That really is too bad Ed.. Because that is the heart of Short Track Racing... Or that is the heart of it how I learned it... Having a good time, enjoying the race, and having a good time with family and friends--BOTH OLD AND NEW ones that you meet at the track every week... Whether you are competitive or not, those are the keys to making short track everything it can be... And if you just so happen to win or be right up there, so be it...Originally posted by Edm View PostI can see where being a tech man can be extremely difficult.
