  • Two Lunatics Loose at Ocala Speedway

Two lunatics took a speedway truck and went nuts on the new clay at Ocala Speedway this afternoon

Actually the two lunatics are Rich Pratt and Mike Peters. I'm just mad that they didn't give me a ride too.

BJ, nice picture. But after seeing it I would like to ask you a few questions. First it now looks like there is almost no wall in front of the stands. Is anything doing to be done about that? Next is there some way your going to hold the dirt in around the infield? And last is there going to be more dirt added at the pit entrance and exit? Thanks

Ummmm...Yes, no, and yes. The frontstretch wall was low BEFORE we put the clay down. That is one of those big projects that we are currently working on, and it will be fixed. As for the transition to the infield, there will be a tire barrier but not much else. The transition there is not complete yet, but that is on the agenda for Monday. We are adding more track to the bottom and it will wedge into the infield grass at the bottom. And the pit entrance right now is impassible to anything but a truck. In the video you can see that it is a straight drop off down to the asphalt except where the rain washed it out a little. It will be resurfaced with clay and other more permanent materials and made to where cars will not bottom out going onto the track.

Rick the wall down the front stretch will be raised. The remaining clay will arrive tomorrow and be filled in around the bottom of the track. We're wedging it in about six feet inside the asphalt with a gradual slope into the grass. The finished product will look very nice. We had a deluge of rain here last night and the track was very nice today, everything stayed packed well with very small runs or washouts. After two laps with that truck we had a great surface. It was a blast sliding around 3 & 4 in that truck. Rich was behind the wheel while I held the shifter in gear. We just needed more HP.
