  • The big reunion!

just talked to Bugs Stevens and he will be leaving Mass. the first of the year and looking forward to the reunion at New Smyrna in Feb. Also talked to Lew Boyds wife and will get back to him after lunch. I can hardly wait for that week in Feb. I go to NSS for the re-union and the race, then to Busch and Nextel at Daytona... YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
YOU MUST ATTEND THE RE-UNION! Jerry and I have worked very hard to bring these veterans of racing to the track.... Jerry has put alot of effort into the festivities also. so make sure you guys say thank you!
i think Bugsy is a reunion nut! he was just leaving his house to go to some NASCAR reunion... i cant hardly wait to meet pete hamilton in person. i watched him race when he was still a kid.... since then he is a NASCAR champion! a very soft spoken gentleman and he has a million great stories to tell. one thing these guys all have in common is their sense of humor...thinking of humor i also think of Leo Cleary!...Unfortunately Wild Bill Slater will not be able to attend due to health issues. But i for one will be thinking of him.... the world needs more laughter! ;-) take care and have a happy day!

I talked to Pete Hamilton, and he's not sure about making it there. He is an Honored guest of Daytona Int'l. that week, and they have not sent him an itinerary yet, and therefore doesn't know what the Fridays plans are. If he can, he'll make it, but cannot commit to being there.
On the up side... we are now over 50 Drivers that are coming, and still have a LONG way to go yet.
Almost every single one of these guys has shared a story with me that I hadn't heard before. I wish I could put mic's on everyone of these guys that day, just so I wouldn't miss any of the thousands of stories I'm sure will be told that day.

The most excited phone call I've recieved yet, was from Richard Bowser, who will be bringing a Vintage car. He was positively pumped up about this show, but had his bubble burst when his work schedule changed and wiped out his plans... he was SOOOOO disappointed. Apparently, the plan changed again, and he is back IN, and is tickled to be a part of this. Thanks Richard... your enthusiasm for this project has made it easy for me to keep plugging, just knowing that a lot of people BELIEVE in this deal!

        Jerry

if 50 show up, its fifty we will be happy to see. we must remember these veterans are getting on in years. most of them in their 70s so it isnt always easy for them to show up at the many many reunions all over the country. Pete has been questionable since the start. it is a long long ride for him... one of the problems is that he doesnt have an ego so we dont have many tools to work with. hahaha he is just a humble quiet man and i dont even know if he realizes how much he means to us... im not giving up! so for me, 50 is nifty! we wont give up until the last gun is fired... ;-)

2 More drivers, and 2 more Vintage cars since Thursday. Here is one of them. Believe it or not, that is actually a '34 Hudson Terraplane. How many of THOSE have you ever seen on a racetrack?

The 2 most recent drivers to join in , are Phil Edwards, whose Late Model (and a cool one at that) is pictured, and Mike Casterline, who won the very first Richie Evans memorial race at NSS in 1986. Still looking for pictures of one of Mike's cars to post/add to gallery.

Hey Jerry, good to see you last night at the truckers 200 race.
If you need the NAPA car at your event then let me know.
It ain't no modified and it don't do dirt, but its a crowd pleaser.
                    Pace car maybe..........

Jim... always good to see you. Sorry Virginia didn't make it up to the stands for a few minutes also.
The Napa car would be a cool addition if you'd like to bring it along. Somehow, a few people have gotten the idea that this show is just for the Asphalt drivers (which it is NOT.... Dirt drivers are just as valued), and that the Vintage Racecar part is just for Modifieds (again, it is open to ANY kind of racecar that would like to display and take a few laps on the high-banks. If you'd like to bring it, we'd be proud to have you there!

Also had 3 more additions today... Ted Renshaw, car owner Don Adler, and Pete Hayes (still looking for a photo of his car).

Things look good to add 5 more names that have a ton of wins and some big history behind them:

Alan Johnson, one of the DIRT series all time win leaders

Danny Johnson, his brother, who also has several hundred wins to his credit

Lee Osborne, who has done everything from Mods, Sprints and Indy

Bentley Warren... if you don't know Bentley, you just don't know!

and Frankie Schneider... rated by many as the best dirt track racer of all time. Started in the 40's, has won over 750 features, raced in almost ALL of the 50 states, and has beaten every single big name from the 50's, 60's and 70's, including Lee Petty, Fireball Roberts, the Flock Brothers, Ralph Earnhardt, Junior Johnson, etc................. His nickname is "The Ole' Master", and he was Goooooooood.
