  • Last 2 TBARA races at Desoto cancelled

Posted by The King on the Desoto pitboard. Anyone know why? I hate to speculate, but the place is dead. They had 2 Street Stocks and 5 Trucks this weekend. I think the biggest class had 7 maybe? How long can it go on? I know TBARA purses aren't cheap, but that is just conjecture on my part. Does anyone actually know anything for certain

John has managed to personally run off any decent person. Instead of greeting the drivers at the pit gate once or twice a year with a 'thanks for coming' he sends them home. Thats just good business.

Bossmanfan, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. We're trying to get a hold of a few people to talk to, but at the end of the day if your track doesn't have the revenue to pay a touring series (though you could certainly make the argument that the TBARA hasn't been much of a touring series this year compared to previous years) then you've got two options: a) see if the touring series will come in at a reduced rate and purse or b) cancel the races.

Sucks for the TBARA drivers that were looking to make up some points in the last few races, oh wait, no one knows what the TBARA points standings actually are!

It's too bad, they put on a good show. Sadly, Nero keeps playing his fiddle while Rome continues to burn From what I am being told by people who have been there, the place is falling apart. He's not going to get the 4 Million he wants, he waited too long. Why bother running it if your heart truly isn't into it. There comes a time when a rational man realizes the cards he is holding, but then again..............

Check our their superlatemodel race this weekend. Tim Russell and Scofield sure to be there. Get there in case there is no 2010 season.

Sorry about the post. I talked to John, and i was not right. Sorry, and my apologies to TBARA, fans, and readers of Karnac.

So, why not share all the so-called facts with us?

My post earlier pretty much sums up the facts as I know them based on the people I have talked to. Gene misspoke and apologized - no reason to beat the guy up.

I won't beat a dead horse, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that the Desoto stands have been close to empty the past few times the TBARA has been there. If you can't make the money on the front or back gate, it gets hard to pay a touring series.

Pretty much the same scenario I saw at OSW whenever I went to see a TBARA race the past few years. I would sit in the stands and think, "there is no way they are covering the sanction fee tonight..." as I looked out across the empty bleachers all around me.

                      Ain't "beating the guy up".....Jack.

You provided no facts in your initial post, and hadn't even talked to anyone that knew. You just stated your opinion of the deal. (which I can't disagree with)

I was just curious as to the take on it, from the horses ass......I mean mouth.

Ok, after all this, are the TBARA races cancelled or still on???

After checking around with some people on the TBARA side of the fence, the facts are pretty much what I guessed previously - the track hasn't been getting enough front or back gate revenues to support bringing the TBARA in for the rest of the year. Anyone that has been to the last few Desoto Sprint Car Series shows can vouch for that as they stretched out in the wide open bleachers. It was just a business decision, no politics involved. Hell, without Desoto the TBARA would have had a real sparse calendar this year.

Jane - the races are cancelled. That's a fact, sadly.

This is a video from this past Saturday night at Desoto.

The stands are EMPTY... This is just sad to watch. John should be run out of town on a rail, for what he has done to that track.
