Looper Speedway-
This is kind of neat history here, and it has already been spoken about a couple of years ago on KARNAC , Lake Lanier was dammed-up in 1956.
Buford Dam, 20 miles downstream created this, I think.
Lost in it watery conditions, was a Raceway that was seemingly submerged, and lost forever.
Looper Speedway, which was one of three raceways in the area at that time.
Extreme draught conditions have led to to the exposure of the hillside cement grandstands, stairs leading down, and looking down upon the area, a racing surface. With water levels continuing to recede, the once former NASCAR sanctioned Raceway has been exposed. It was 1/4 mile oranged-clay oval, and had a reputation of being the most dusty in the South.
The track layout, and the history of it's former great drivers will follow, as it could be lengthy storywise.
