  • 5 good things about New Smyrna last night

1 The best news is that Gary Gimmler is not hurt after his scary crash in a sprint. He really socked the concrete and I am sure he is plenty sore, but at least he didn't go off in the abulance. Yes, the sprints had a good car count and plenty of competitive cars, but it was just "one of those nights" with a few too many yellows and crashes in that class.

2 Drainage! Yep, I said drainage. The track was swamped at about 3 pm or so with a ferocious storm. When I got there at 4, most of the pits in turns 3 and 4 were under a few inches of water. However, they have installed or improved storm drains that cleaned up the mess, and in no time at all there were trucks and trailers parked all over where the swamp was. Its nice to see a plan work out.

3 There is an interesting new mini stock out there: a front wheel drive VW. For the first time, it was up to speed last night and that little car ran great. It was cool to see a mini that looks so different from the others, and that can run at the front. I had a good time racing with that guy, he was agressive and clean.

4 Anytime a race ends with hot tempers and a tear-down, then you know you've seen a good one. Strictly Stocks were pretty cool last night! There was a bunch of fired up racers in that class.

5 Yes, men are pigs, but I have to point out the number and quality of pretty girls walking around at that track. I was not the only one to notice that either, believe me. I'm sure gonna miss summertime.

All things considered, it was a fun race night!
