The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series comes calling this week at Volusia Speedway Park near Barberville, FL. for the Labor Day Late Model Shoot-Out. If you can't make it to the track to see all the action in person, you can still enjoy all the great dirt track racing live at www.tvshowcaster.com. The webcast is absolutely free thanks to the sponsorship of America's Incredible Pizza.
This will be the second visit of the year for the UDLMCS at Volusia Speedway Park. Ivedent Lloyd, driving for David Clegg, took the win in the Scott Thompson Memorial on June 25th. Whether Lloyd will be in the field for the Labor Day Shoot-Out is a big question mark at this point as he received a broken hand in an accident at a race in Brunswick, GA last weekend.
UDLMCS points leader Jason Fitzgerald will be on hand holding a 60 point advantage over Mark Whitener. Whitener, in turn, has an advantage of 60 markers over Johnny Collins who currently holds down third in the 2009 points race. Whitener is a bit behind the eight ball this week after having blown his engine sky-high on the very first lap of the first heat race at VSP last week. Collins, meanwhile, is coming off double wins at Volusia two weeks ago.
Young Dillon Wood is currently fourth in points trailed by Russell Brown, Jr. Both are expected in the field along with a host of other drivers including Keith & Jack Nosbisch, Tyler Ivey, Clay & Adam Bedenbaugh, Jordy Nipper, Rich Pratt, Kevin Durden, Darrell Padgett, Travis Pennington, ageless Wayne Shugart and Rookie points leader Dennis Williams. Local favorites such as Lawton Minchew, Richard Ferry, Stanton Mills and Joe Kump are also expected in the field. Minchew is coming off his first VSP win of the year last week.
Along with the UDLMCS, the Mini Stocks will be in action with a pair of features. Their first main event will be a make-up for one that was rained out in early August. The Sportsman cars will be back in action and hope to follow up their outstanding event of last week that saw Danny Vogel, Jr., Alan Peacock and Aaron Barsness battle side by side over the final few laps before Vogel picked up the victory. After a week off, the Street Stocks return to action this week to top off an exciting card.
