  • Who is going to help out and fix Orlando???

I know that there have been many folks that have wanted to help out the grand old girl! Sounds like it is time to make it happen! Not sure just how much rain is going on down there! It kills me to see that she is down there sitting idle for so long! You know it can be fixed, in fact Robert tried a few years ago, unfortunatly one step was left out...LET'S TRY AGAIN

    Who is in??

Maybe make a phone call to NSS and let them know that you will help!

And before the ones that WILL come on here and bash...Do you really think that Robert is making any money these days??? Are you??? Race tracks are hit about as hard as anything in this economy, it is even bad here in the frozen tundra of LA

I put out an idea, that no one even read or just thinks it was off.
Enless the water table is actuly above ground,we can drain the place.
    Here is what I posted before;
    "Idea from afar;
The way I understand whats happening is some of the rain fines it's way into the ground behind the wall and some runs off.?=
Get post hole diggers or sump hole/well diggers set up,to run in on the fan side of wall and sink deep sump holes, cover them so rain runs off as normel and sump holes only drains inground/hump at grandstands and out side of wall, water that is making weeper to track, this would let dry out happen much faster then trying to let that mound of drit dry for weeks,it could that way not weep any after only a few hours.
Stop trying to kill Gators when you need to drain the swoomp! Ya must be able to have a show before figuring out what show."

If that is some how off base, from looking at it from Miami and also having raced OSW a number of times,it seem on point to me.Not that other drains don't also need adding as well!

Rusty, The problem with orlando is an engineering one. There is nothing that can be done that is a quick fix. The top of the grass all the way around the track will have to be paved. And angled away from the track to fix the problem. Alot of money $$$$$ Or don't race in the summer.

could that race track just be a tax write off

because it sure sounds like that problem has been going on for long time and there ain't nothing that can't be fixed

I just wonder if anyone has thought about using rosin... I think that is what they used at Pocono a few years back when they had a weeping problem... Many years ago (I think guys like Fenton and Alderman can remember), the surface at Sunshine Speedway became so worn that it was almost like racing on glass... The track crew would spread rosin in the corners just before the heats and just before the features and it gave back two grooves to the drivers... the stuff seemed to work pretty good... I know it's just a temporary fix and I have no idea where you'd get it in large quantities, but anything is worth a shot at this point...

            Rusty,
It is interesting that the guy from out of town is the only one who is showing interest in the track. (The promoter is trying, but he has no show to promote). I am sure if we heard from track management/ownership about an effort to get OSW back on its feet, there would some response from us. So far, nothing. It seems like 100% of the attention and effort goes into NSS, and OSW is the red-headed step child. Regardless or whatever may be going on behind the scenes, we have the perception that the track is just sitting there in the rain waiting for the dry season to return.

After all this time off, can we expect anything to have changed? There has been plenty of time to repair/replace the pit bathroom, but I bet it has not been touched. I also suspect the pit stands will have the same broken welds and sagging boards that it has had for years. I wish it would be a safer and more attractive place after this two month break, but I am not holding my breath.

Back in my Hialeah days, we would sometimes have a "work" day at the track where a bunch of volunteers would show up to cut grass, trim trees, repair stuff, etc. This may help if it was paired up with a test and tune. I think it is vital to get some cars running around there to show that it is race ready (which it is not at the moment).

            Sigh...

You know that I love and care about Orlando SpeedWorld and always have and will. I would be happy to help in anyway to fix the ole girl and get her running again. Just don't think my skills are what she needs. But count me in if I can help in anyway to help SpeedWorld.

Rick is doing a GREAT job! he has no control over this weather mess.

We know from the posts on here that we have a drainage problem...that is a no brainer! And we have some soulutions...keep them coming! We know that there are some issues with welding and boards...who has a welder? The boards are easy..a few bolts on and a few bolts off! The bathrooms have been rebuilt by Bordeaux THANK YOU Bordeaux!!!! The building will not be torn down as it would cause for MAJOR permitting and construction. Cuddy's have always been GREAT about coming out and painting!

Do you really want to sit around and complain about what needs to be done and stay at status quo OR do we want to get that wonderful old girl back up to her very best? If I could afford to I would be there in a minute to help out...it will take everyone helping to make it work!

Imagine if there were 40 people out there with paint brushes and a bucket of paint...in NO TIME there would be a transformation...imagine 40 folks working on the drainage *BING* in no time what a difference! Last I knew there were bleacher boards at NSS, I am sure that Robert would be more than willing to send them to OSW if he knew that there was someone there to help!

Show Robert how much you care about OSW...OF COURSE NSS gets more attention SO WHAT for those of you that love her OSW show that you care about her! It is better to put a bit of work in her now than to sit back and write about that GREAT track that was out east of Orlando and the GREAT time that you USED to have there! She is still alive, and she is still vibrant!

Maybe a cookout and practice??? HMMMM

Remember the days of the old dirt road....THANKS PBG!!!
Remember the days of only half the toilets working??...Thanks Bordeaux!!
Remember the bando track coming apart and various other parts of the track???...Thanks Hearndon Construction!!!
Remember the buildings looking a little worn out????Thanks Billy Cuddy Painting!!!
The list can go on and on...you get my drift...and no we can not all affor to spend as much as they did, but every little bit helps

NO NSS did NOT put me up to this, but I see my old girl in a bit of trouble HELL she just turned 35 she needs a birthday present

Don't you believe the economy seems to be the perfect excuse to poor management???

Don't take my word for it. Get yourself to Barre,Vermont this w/e and go check Thunder Road and what they do there!!!!! Some might learn a trick or 2 in racing promotion and major event management. Same US of A, same economy, little state in the middle of nowhere with less than a million persons, and the place will be jam packed solid. Heck, when Smoke was there this summer, they had race fans hanging in trees, and NO it's not because it's the North East because couple hundred miles down, you have All Stars Speedway that cannot put 25 people in his grandstands..

I'm telling you, for any promoter(s) that really wants to learn something, it's worth the trip.

What kind of warranty does Bordeaux offer? The pits bathrooms are really in "the pits." If you know what I mean, it would be more sanitary if we all just dug a hole in the ground.

I was really impressed with the bathrooms at Nss, both pits and grand stands were in great shape.

hmmmmmm maybe this is why folks don't want to help out..

I know for a fact that they came in last year about this time and put in all new fixtures, and made everything work! Not sure what might have happened since then

Sorry, I have not been there in awhile either but I am willing to help out in any way I can. I can handle a paint brush for sure and sometimes I am trusted with a hammer but just let me know when and where and I am more than willing to help. No matter what, I still love Orlando and care that she does not become a parking lot or shopping mall or anyother thing other than a racetrack which I love. So count me in and just let me know when and where to help.

Thank you George!!!! This is the kind of teamwork that it will take to get her back on her feet!

While she may be known as the red headed step child...I always go for the underdog!!! HMMMM Cinderella was a step child wasn't she

Thanks again George...if you are ever in Louisiana please stop by .... tickets are on me!!!! I appreciate your willingness to help!!!

When people realize there is no fixing Orlando and move on the problem will be solved.
