  • What a gutsy move!?!?!?!?!?

Albany Saratoga Speedway, a dirt track in N.Y. , will rip the dirt off for next early spring to holds a couple of major asphalt events, ACT//LMS, Mods, Super Mods, etc., just to put the dirt back on for the regular dirt season..... How about that??!?!?!!?We can say whatever we want, the guy has guts....

Is that still CJ Richards? He's been a gutsy guy for decades now. First, he kicked out the DIRT organization, and eveyone thought he was nuts.

    He wasn't

He created a Modified division that would be more affordable to the little guys.

    It worked

He announced a 3 night circuit that would pay huge points fund money. The drivers doubted those figures would be paid.

    Every check cleared.

This is not the first time they have shoveled off the dirt (it originally was an asphalt, but he covered the pavement instead of ripping it up), and when it was announced that an Asphalt show would happen at A-S, nobody believed it.

    It happened.

The idea itself isn't new to A-S Speedway, but bringing in the top Touring groups IS a new idea. Talk about the best of both worlds!!!

So much for the dirt or asphalt question , just have both . Ocala could have laid dirt over the asphalt and had both types of racing . I'd guess that Mr. Richards has some very firm commitments from a couple of race series ( possibly some that haven't been made public yet ) to tackle that kind of a project . But then moto-cross lays down plywood and dirt over grass in baseball and football venues all the time .

Man thats gotta be a momunetal task to take the clay up and run the asphalt and then put it back. I hope he has a bang up show. I like to see inovators. Sounds like hes been doing it for a while. Good luck to him. Bob...

Correct me if I'm wrong but there isn't another asphalt track in that area of the Northeast within a drive of several hours. The closest I can think of is Oswego or Adirondack. Oswego is pretty much a Supermodified track and I'm not sure what Adirondack is now. Anyway, it's probably a 3 hour drive for an asphalt show from that area. Ocala doesn't have the same advantage. In Florida, you can pretty much find an asphalt track within an hour drive, except for the southern part. BTW, I believe Ocala still has the asphalt under the clay.
