What happen to Dave Steele to come in last place? and did Bobby East start on the pole?

I remember seeing Steele pull into the infield after about the first third of the race... thinking it was something mechanical... not sure about East...

Someone tangled with Bobby Santos at the start, and he drove Dave Steele into the turn one wall. They didn't hit that hard, but it put David toward the back and who knows, maybe it affected the steering. The news story says David dropped out with a flat.

That sounds about right... I was in turn 4 when all that happened so I couldn't see who all was involved... I remember it was shortly after the restart that David pulled off in turn 4.

As for Bobby East, I don't believe that he started on the pole. I think Florida's own, Brian Gingras did (as well as the Florida 400 at Desoto). East did wind up winning, but had to start in 24th for the Midget feature.

Dave Steele told me before the Midget race started that the left rear tire went flat... I think East started third... Plenty of pics up now at orlandospeedworld.org.
