  • Check this out! WOW!

On March 29th. CCMP will be having a race you won't want to miss... the car in the photo is one that Al Unser raced in the Indy races. There will be 11 and possibly 12 of these racing at CCMP!
In the car are my Hailey & Bobby and the guy outside is Robby Gordon who is helping to promote the event.
On December 21 the cars will be at the track for practice. Now this is something fun to look forward to! if i am not mistaken, Gary LaPlant who started and promotes the Outlaw Street Stocks secured this show for us. Gary has been one of the most supportive and positive figures in racing for a long long time and we are blessed to have him be part of our racing family.
i will be talking to Robby this week and follow up on this show then bring the details to you.

Did you mean to say Unser instead of Gordon? it must be a new series for outdated indy cars.might be good.

Thanks for clearing that up Gary. I knew it wasn't Gordon, but didn't know who it was.

Is this series sort of like the American Indycar Series? Former Indy cars that had no other home? Robby was in that series as well, and won a few races.

ok...i will try again. The handsome young man kneeling in the photo is ROBBY GORDON... he is helping promote the car race and may possibly get to drive one. The car was the car AL UNSER drove in 2003. It is now owned by Mike Kass of Englewood.
Scott... there are about 3,000 people who want to drive it. Good luck. hahaha at least you can sit with us and watch. ;-)

Guess it's "a Robby Gordon," not "The Robby Gordon."

Do these people have a website? I'd be curious to see what engine specs they are running. If they were smart they would make them production blocks or something similar to USAC 410 rules. In 2003 they were running Toyotas and Hondas, so this was after the Olds/Nissan era where teams were still tuning their own motors.

As far as being competitive on bullrings, I don't know about that. Those early IRL cars weren't designed for that. But hey, if they can get enough of them and go to New Smyrna or Lakeland, I'd go take a look.

They'd be good at Lakeland, but anything shorter than a 3/4 is just gonna be fast pace laps.
Not trying to burst your bubble Carol or CCMP, just being realistic. Even New Smyrna is too short. They just aren't built for short-track racing.

i will be posting all of that soon. they will not be racing their full potential which is over 200 MPH but they will definitely make you want to hang on to your hat! i believe they will run over 100 MPH and i think that will be pretty darned fun at our short tracks., they will be faster than the sprints... this has all be tried and true so it will be a great show at CCMP as well as other tracks...THINK POSITIVE!

I've yet to see anyone say anything negative, so no one is not being positive.

But I'd be willing to bet a six pack of quality beer that Dave Steele in a TBARA car will be faster than those things at a short track in this state.

I agree .if you put a sprint car v8 in a Indycar you're raising the center of gravity over a lower profile Honda the car is designed for.won 't handle well.

                        Your on

Ok, JT. I'll take that bet. You too Gary. Although I think the chance of seeing an Indy car on a Florida short track is a bit of a long shot, I like the idea and would travel to see it.

As far as outrunning a sprint, well if we assume that the Indy car has at least comparable horse power, I like its superior aero, front and rear wings and the lower center of gravity.

Saw something similar to this with Indy Cars on Short Tracks years ago at Lee USA Speedway in NH.... I think half the crowd was asleep by lap 5...

                          Were they fast... YES!

But with absolutely NO passing and a very boring show... hope this works better than that did...

And I don't think they could run NSS because of the banking... when the Barhe's were building New Hampshire International... they had to limit the amount of banking so the IRL cars could still run there...

Would definitely be interesting to see them at Lakeland!

I think this might be interesting to see but also question if there will be any passing. As far as a sprint being faster, I'd bet on the Indy car. Now if we could throw a Supermodified into the mix, it might get real interesting. Maybe we can get someone to arrange a match race with the three.

Taking ALL bets right now... the Supermod will smoke the decals right off of the other two!
