  • Things NO longer around at tracks

    1. Tow money for cars over 100 miles away
    2. Appearance money for the top 5 in points
    3. Enough cars to have 3 heats, B main and A main
    4. No entry fee
    5. Bonus money for PASSING (start in the rear and get PAID to pass cars)
    6. Double points, double money nights at the same distance.
    7. Handicapping cars by Money won or points INSTEAD of time trials.
    8. Double file restarts

Things that I saw a liked when done there
    1. Fans on the track meeting the drivers
    2. Good CLEAN driving
    3. Nice people at sign in to the track

There are more I am sure but others will fill in the blanks.

Just curious, what method did tracks use to pay out Bonus money for passing cars?

    That is interesting.

You TRADED your starting spot to start scratch on the field and got $10.00 per car. The ONLY cars that could collect where the cars that swapped spots.
Remeber we always had 24 cars in the main so that meant you started 23 or 24 with at least 10 cars that could win each week.
ASCS gives out PASSING points now but in the old days it was money.

Bestway 4 every nite; Handicapping cars by Money won or points ,INSTEAD of time trials<[save for big events only],high points starts rear low front, and car that miss a nite starts rear also behind others.
Winner of last week goes to rear<dead last next week,if repete win from dead last start=gets extra $50 or?
To start year off pull pills.
Always flip a 50cent for how many invert on big event, like pick between invert 6=heads ,8=tails.
This this how you make a show for fans.

Ken Kinney used to pay the pole sitter $1200 to start in the rear. I only remember a couple taking it. Shawn Smith took it one time and he got back to 2nd place, but he put on a whale of a show coming thru the field. Bob...

One time at Auburndale they had a 40 lap street stock race. We time trialed and we was 2nd fast time. They were planning to start straight up. Me and the fast qualifier went to the owner at the time and told him give us an extra $100 if one of us wins and we would go to the rear. he said yes there were 18 or 20 cars for the race. I ened up 3rd the other guy was 2nd. I was told by fans that was one of the best shows they had seen in a long time watching us come up thru the field. i am always a fan of faster cars starting in the rear cause it puts on a show for the fans and that is the reason for doing it.

I remember one thing a couple of tracks would do in California is kids would collect soda cups thrown on the ground. They would collect enough of them and turn them in for free sodas. Something small but the kids would have fun.
