It looks like they just got a good bit of rain, and there is still more on the way acording to news 13. Earlier today the track had a good few weepers and was still litered with debris. I don't understand why they just don't save everyone some time and call it.

SURPRISE!!! We raced and were out of there by 11:30. Had 2 minor "Weepers". I see Ocala was rained out agan. No one is giving them grief about them being rained out (AB195 and AJ14). Maybe they need to scrape the mud off the track and turn it back to Asphalt where you can dry it.Last edited by dd38; 07-18-2009, 09:45 PM.

Dave D. dd38---you got me on this one (fri. nite). I even showed up to watch
an OK nite of racing. Even after my pondering to drive out there, I did.
Dave, I am your biggest fan, you betcha. Remember you from way back in Jay Blanchard Park taking promo photos for sponsers in an orange limited late model car. Have always been a big fan of yours. Remember that?
$15.00 pops to see a.........somewhat of a show is a tough pill to swallow.
But I still did just that, and sat with some buds watching it. It was OK.
However, sometimes a post of mine, or others is only a slight, seemingly sarcastic post, about OSW. And I don't think that I was really too far off the mark on that other thread, actually pretty much right on the mark. And that's where I still stand today. You're a racer, and I am a grandstand rat, and I sure do want to see this fine facility thrive, just like the next person does.

I can't imagine why this should require further explanation , but for some people .... Ocala doesn't deserve grief for getting rained out . Its a dirt track , too much rain renders its surface unusable . Even if the rain stops hours before race time the track surface remains a mess and takes days to dry out again . No one that i know of ever suggested that Ocala should scrape the dirt off and become asphalt . Nor do i recall anyone suggesting Orlando becoming a dirt track . My reference to Mike turning Ocala from asphalt to dirt was to illustrate that he bit the bullet and spent a lot of money for the good of the track . My point was that maybe Robert should also spend the money to fix the water problems at Orlando for the good of the track . I don't want to see it close , and if every other week or so is a rainout , how long do you think he can aford to keep it open ?
Now to the point , Orlando is not a dirt track , its surface dries very quickly , so rain that happens the day before , or several hours before race time should have no effect on whether the races are run or not . The lake in the infield , the weepers , the ponds in the pit area can all be fixed , thereby allowing the races to go on each week instead of being cancelled . And far too many times i've seen cancellation notices posted for Friday races because it rained on Wednesday or Thursday .
