        Answer

AB195 - What is your direct phone number and I will be sure to call you first when and if we decide to cancel.

The reason we are giving the early word is we have groups and businesses who I have set up nights with each week and we try to get them the word asap, and because we have drivers that plan and drive good distances to race. The track seeps water and we all know that, so if we have a bunch of rain it is tough to race, last week it stormed out there from 5:30 - 8:15 or so and the track was soaked on top of it already seeping Thursday night when it was canceled.

No body like all the decisions, but we are trying to do the right thing.

        Thanks

For gods sake Rick , are you reading your posts ????? " We have to let everyone know ahead of time that we can't race due to weepers and rain " . I doubt there is one other asphalt track in America that posts notices like that week after week . Orlando isn't my home track , its not really even close to my house . But i've been there many times and i love the track . More important , i don't want to see it get bulldozed . So once again , i've asked this before , why post what would be considered joke announcements from any other asphalt track , why doesn't Robert FIX the drainage problem ??? It IS fixable . It doesn't make financial sense to cancel races week after week after week . I doubt its a money issue for Robert . If the track has to be torn up for a few weeks , then so be it !!! Its not like its getting used anyway the way it is .

            Damn Aj14

That makes sense.... are you crazy...why fix something for good when you can deal with it time and time again...that would be like PUTTING OUT A FIRE!

Orlando has dealt with the seeping for years and it looks like they are comfortable with continuing to do so.

If you owned that track would you fix the weeping first or fix the stands first? I guess it would be smarter to fix the weeping and THEN work on the stands, but one way or the other, something should be done to this tax write off.

Hey, I heard you can get some free ice if you bring your own cup.

Geez , its like a McDonalds that can't serve hamburgers day after day , week after week , because the grill doesn't work . Since hamburgers are their only reason to exist , i'd think they might want to take a hard look at fixing the grill .

And no this is not directed at you Rick . I understand that you're probably just as frustrated as everyone else over this . But when the answer is so obvious , why does nothing get done ?

does the track still have access to the recycled/milled asphalt such as was used to pave the access road?

if that guy was willing to donate more, the asphalt millings would be a pretty good construction material for runoffs, walkways up from the pit side and capping the top of the hill.

it's always easy to spend someone else's money.

AB195. why are you so worried about it? You don't race there. There have been many attempts to fix it by "Experts" as they are so called, and it's good for awhile, and then they return. We have just had a lot of rain this season. It too shall pass. Been dealing with this for 25-30 plus years, so this is nothing new to us that race there. Better to have a place to race, even if it is not as much as some other tracks, then to have no place at all. And as far as posting early as no other track would do, how many tracks are located as close to the coast as Speedworld where the afternoon clouds from the east and west collide and make one helluva storm?

Well sir, it is a major project and would cost a bunch of money to do right now. I am sure everyone thinks Robert has an open check book and can afford anything. He has done a bunch of work to both tracks, more at NSS and I am sure will conitnue to do so. But I think you are unfair in thinking it is that simple. What I am trying to say is in a tough situation we are trying to do are best to make the best decision for the drivers, fans and the track and give penty of notice to all. Thanks

If were a dirt track, dust problems would never occur, as the seepage would keep it nice and tacky.

Well no Rick , i don't think its unfair of me to think its so simple . Speaking of dirt tracks , Mike Peters turned his entire race track from asphalt to dirt . That was a pretty major project , but he felt it needed to be done for the good of the track . So he bit the bullet and spent the money . I don't think it would be simple . I think an engineer would have to come up with a plan , i think a large section of the banking and maybe even a piece of the track would have to be dug up , i think it would take weeks or months and cost about what it cost Mike Peters to lay down clay at Ocala .
But when its' only function is a race track , it doesn't make much sense to keep calling off races because the track needs to be fixed .
I guess my main concern is this . How long is Robert Hart prepared to keep losing money on the place when it can't be used as a race track ? And every Friday when the track brings in no money it gets just that much closer to becoming a commercial development site .
Todd , i'm not trying to spend Roberts money for him , i'm trying to understand how it makes any sense NOT to fix the place correctly .

Maybe we don't want a dirt track. And just what the area needs is another dirt track. There is Ocala and Volusia already as you know competeing against each other. Most everyone in the area is a asphalt racer. Why are you concerned about it AJ4I? You don't race there, Quit worrying about it and Robert Hart !!!! It's his track. I spend the summers in Tennessee and have gone to several dirt tracks and you couldn't pay me enough to race dirt. Between the sand, mud, dust and the wear and tear on the car and engine, I'd quit racing or go drag racing before running dirt. Maybe it's good from a spectator standpoint, but that's about it. The rainy season and summer heat will be gone in a few weeks any how.
