It's not even noon on Friday and they already canceled Friday's races? Is the track in that bad of shape? I was seeing posts from *last night* (Thursday) that they had already canceled for Friday.

Rainouts at Orlando seem to be an almost weekly occurance . Maybe its always been that way , now that i know about the weepers and drainage problems i understand why . But i'm wondering how long this can continue before it makes good business sense to simply close the place down .
Property taxes , utility bills , maintenence , payroll , how long can Robert afford to keep the place open ?
But more important , how much more difficult and expensive could it possibly be to just fix the drainage problems instead of leaving the place sit empty week after week ? This is an age of technology , you can't tell me that theres no way to fix the drainage . It isn't my home track , its too far away for me to go there each week , but i've been there often enough to know i'd sure hate to see it close .

drainage is not a technology issue. it's as well understood as dirt.

the first thing i would do would be to install a French drain all the way around the outside of the wall.

that's not the most important thing though. the most important thing is to slope the "level" ground around the outside of the track away from the wall. there are a couple of areas where it already does this but in most places it's reverse sloped so that all the water piles up against the wall and goes straight down into the dirt. this is what is causing the weepers for days ( even weeks sometimes ) after the rain is gone.

why was the track built this way? the original owner cheaped out. if you slope that away from track you'll have washout problems on the back sides of the banks. you see the same thing with slope on dirt roads that are next to canals. the road is always sloped AWAY from the canal because they don't want to have a washout into canal.

with work and care in the runoff design you can control the washout as well but it's either an upkeep issue or buying material ( recycled asphalt, stone, railroad ties, etc ) to build berms and spillways.

however you do it, it's probably not going to be cheap now that all of those grandstands are up. even a French drain wouldn't be cheap with all of the pipe, stone and trenching you'd need to do.
