  • Top Gear Video

Thought some of you might enjoy seeing this clip taped earlier this year in California with my nephew Carmichael and Rally driver Ken Block for the UK TV series Top Gear.

This segment was just aired on Top Gear in the UK this past Sunday, 7/05/09.

It will probably be awhile however before its aired here in the U.S. Top Gear reportedly draws 350,000,000 viewers in the UK.

I’m not sure about Ken Block’s background or future aspirations but it looks to me if he hasn’t tried his hand at driving a Modified on either dirt or asphalt, he should.

Top Gear is one of the better automotive shows ever put on television . IF you like the British style of humour . Its on BBC America channel which a lot of people don't receive . That clip is very good .

the total population of the UK is "only" ~61,000,000. maybe worldwide.

IF you like the British style of humour .

there's not a whole lot of humor in that clip but it does show off their very high production values and gives you a good idea of how edited, scripted and massaged most of the show is.

there were at least 7 different cameras used just for Carmichael/Block/Transport choreographed jump sequence from 6:00-6:30.

as with the other Block videos, i don't believe for a second that this skit was shot in one take.

i think this is the first Block video to get a lot of attention:

notice that cameras keep appearing and disappearing from mounts on the passenger C pillar, roof and drivers front quarter? there are probably a couple of hundred edits in this 4 1/2 min video.

that's probably what got Ken the Top Gear gig in the first place. they watched this and saw that they could hand off production to his crew and get back an action sequence that was up to their standards.
