  • Watched NSS 1988 Highlight Video....

......last night. The section about Speedweeks 1988 was very interesting. All three of Speedweeks Champions in the top three classes have passed away. Tom Baldwin in the Modifieds, Joe Shear in the Super Lates, and my friend Ed Meridith in the Late Models. Man, that was only 21 years ago. One more thing that stold out was how many times Herby showed up with the buggy before the crashes were barely over. That guy was allsome.

Speedweeks 1988! Ahh, I remember it well....

New Smyrna promised to fix the scoreboard "soon".

The racers were all complaining about rules, tires and pay-out.

Dave Westerman celebrated his "Golden Jubilee" 50'th anniversary as track announcer.

Ron Abney Sr. dropped out of Harvard in his junior year.

New Smyrna announced that the out-houses would be replaced by state of the art indoor plumbing.

Jane and Carol worked as roadies on the Rollings Stones year-long USA tour.

Michael Jackson was still a black man.

    I graduated from middle school.

Where did you find a 1988 video? Online somewheres?

I was about to gradumate high school...guys like Trickle, Shear, Eddy, Schill, Millers (both Mike and Butch)...would still make the trip down for Speedweeks. The Busch Clash was still held on a Sunday afternoon, along with the ARCA race. No Truck race on Friday night.

I have all of Captain Vedio's year end reviews.

Hi Jim, Carl "Captain Vedio" Mobley vedio taped the races at NSS and OSW for years. He would make a hi light tape every year and show it at the banquet. When he put every thing on CD's he offered me his bag of 8 tracks. So when I get to missing the races I dig out a tape and watch. It is a very neat way to remember the past.

              My old Gateway died.

I don't have a way of posting these vedios, also don't have the know how LOL. If a bunch of you would like to get together somewhere and watch some of these, let me know and I'll bring the bag over. Maybe AJ14, Rex, Jerry, and a few others would like to have a few beers and view some old NSS/OSW history, we can make it happen. Dave, I also have a bunch of photos that I'll bring out to Speedworld some friday night and give to you to add to your website.
