Joining Scott as a guest on tonights show will also be late model veteran Joe Winchell, to talk about his strong 2009 season, including his victory this past Saturday night at Charlotte County Motorsports Park.
Scott Lagasse Jr began competing in Motorsports at age 7. His first competition was in Motocross and a few years later, he moved into karts.
“I have always loved the opportunity to compete; it doesn’t matter if it’s Motorcycles, Karts, Dirt Cars, Asphalt Ovals or Road Courses. It’s the challenge of extracting every ounce of performance from the ride and the challenge of beating the competition that excites me.”
It was at the age of 15 after winning the Stock Lite Karting Championship that Scott Jr would get his first chance in a full sized Race Car. “I can remember explaining to my Dad that I was ready to race his NASCAR Florida Modified and to my surprise he said I know.”
Scott Jr qualified on the pole for his first race and never looked back as he won the first time out and over 50% of his races in the 1998 season. Over the course of the next few years, Lagasse Jr. focused on running asphalt and dirt cars around the state of Florida. He garnered over 25 wins from 1998 to 2002 and was crowned the Late Model Champion at St. Augustine Speedway in 2001. The progression in his career led him into the ASA Series in 2003. For the next two seasons, Lagasse Jr. competed in a limited schedule and racked up eight top-10 and five top-five finishes in just 12 starts. He captured his first ASA win at Kentucky Speedway in a thrilling photo-finish fashion.
The higher ranks of NASCAR came knocking on Lagasse Jr.’s door in 2004 as he was signed to Ganassi’s Talent Development Program. Lagasse Jr. competed in a minimal amount of races for the organization and then spent some time free-lancing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Nationwide Series for various teams.
2007 & 2008- In hopes of getting back into the winners circle, Lagasse Jr. took a step back from NASCAR to compete in the ARCA Re/Max Series on a limited basis. The move paid off as Lagasse Jr. garnered two wins, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes in just 14 starts.
That move also caught the eye of NASCAR Nationwide Series team CJM Racing. In a whirlwind couple of weeks, the team and Lagasse Jr. sat down and mapped out the future of this up-and-coming driver and team. Lagasse Jr. piloted the No. 11 America’s Incredible Pizza Company Chevrolet for the remaining 7 races in 2008 and has secured a full-time ride in 2009 competing for the “Rookie of the Year” title.
Lagasse Jr. graduated with honors from Flagler College in Business Administration in 2004 and when not wheeling the No. 11 America’s Incredible Pizza Company Chevrolet you can find him at the local Florida asphalt and dirt tracks racing.
