I seen one of the best latemodels races I've ever seen on asphalt or dirt last night at VSP. I will also say what a great time I had up in turn 2 hanging out with a bunch of good friends and eating some good food cooked by Frasson and again thanks for cooking. VSP had good car counts in every class and only ran 4 classes. If I had any complaints about last night it took a little long for the sportsman race and starting the main event a little late but for the racing I seen it was well worth the wait.
WE'VE MOVED!!!

Great LM race last night. I figured Lloyd would run away with it, but he really didn't. Lots of lead swapping and close racing. Fitzgerald had a harder time with traffic than Ivedent, but seemed to be just as fast or faster even.
You really got to see the difference between dirt and asphalt last night. Every lap on dirt is an adventure and people don't just follow the leader.
The show was getting really old by the time they rolled off the midnight LM race. I stick to my thoughts from last week about the order they run the races. Put the main event either in the beginning or middle of them, so I can choose whether to stick around for the other divisions. Or when they hit their time limit - freeze the field, take them off the track and run them after the main event.
Was gonna look up the honorable mention tailgate party, but didn't see an obvious sign of which group was the poster formerly known as Frasson. I did see him walk by with his loot - what the hell was that black thing anyhow?

a molded plastic "tailgating appliance". it had two 'seats', two cup holders and what looked like a change holder molded into it. i suppose you could use it in the grandstands as well. i didn't think it was very comfortable.
I will also say what a great time I had up in turn 2 hanging out with a bunch of good friends and eating some good food cooked by Frasson and again thanks for cooking.
sooooooo much food. good stuff, Frass. i'm afraid i never got to Roger's stuff, i was too full.
but didn't see an obvious sign of which group was the poster formerly known as Frasson.
he was the one with the "Banned" sign on the back of his car.
Fitzgerald had a harder time with traffic than Ivedent, but seemed to be just as fast or faster even.
that's how i judged it.
i could have sworn Ivedent made some kind of a comment when he was pill drawing about how the high groove was going to be the way to go so he hoped he would pull a 2. that made watching him bottom feed all night fairly funny. he isn't afraid of the inside wall, that's for sure.
you don't think he was trying to psych everybody out, do you?
Keith Nosbisch looked like he was going to be racey early on, then he just never went well on one of the restarts and wound up getting lapped. anybody know what happened to him?Racers Supporting Racers - for all your Vero Beach area automotive repair needs:

Good fun, good food, good racing too.
Gotta agree with Mr. Bubba about the timing of the main event. The LM feature was outstanding, but it should have gone green earlier in the show, instead of almost midnight.
Wasn't the action at the front of the Sportsman great? Yes, the back of the field generated way too many yellows, but the top 5 cars were trememdous when the green was out.
We tried to protest the result of the tail gate competition, but the track wouldn't hear of it. I know for a fact that "the winners" had illegal aliens cooking their food, while OUR chef was a red-blooded American. Thanks Jerry!
I finally got to meet Old Style Racer 2 and the Strahleys. Boy, if you ever feel like having a good arguement, try to convince Jimbo that pavement racing has redeeming values, then sit back and listen!

It was a great night of racing as usual at Volusia. Its an honor to watch The Professor disect drive and disect traffic and watch 5W Whitener once again have a rocket ship and then come back to the field once he gets to traffic. Seen it many times. Ivey and Locomotive had a good race going on around 5th and 6th place. I already look forward to next years race.Randy Kerr

I thought I saw you Skip when Alex and I came in. I did see Jerry and Todd playing in the trunk while they were waiting to get into the drive-in parking. Also got to see Jerry on the frontstretch when he got his tailgate which was really neat. Also told him that he was welcomed back to karnac and could post whenever he wants to and being the gentleman that Jerry is, said he would come back when he wanted to. But Jerry and I have been friends for a long time and he knows that I did not ban him but I was happy to be the one to welcome him back.
As for last night, the Sportsman were given a time limit on th their race since they seemed to be having a hard time getting it done. And we all had our own opinions in the tower last night who was going to win. Someone did pick Lloyd but I have always liked Jason Fitzgerald since the day I first saw him drive. But there were alot of "GOOD" cars there which is different than asphalt. On asphalt you might have 5 good cars but on dirt, there are many good cars and alot of possible winners in every race.
Plus I loved seeing Patick Williams in the 38 and also seeing his brother Kevin Durden in the 56. I know Ms. Earlene would have loved to have been there with both her boys racing but she is the scorer at Columbia and she was there doing her job. And it was great seeing Mark Taylor from Cocoa in his Mini Stock with his Finney Racing sticker on it but the Finney's will have some work to do on it before it races again at Volusia. But I have found in dirt, you never know who will be there than you already know from the asphalt world.
I really wanted to come and see you guys Jerry but I hurt my knee and had on a brace last night. I wasn't too sure about hopping down on the track but I did okay and thank goodness did not hurt it again. But I know you make a mean bbq and would have loved some. But maybe next time, just let me know you are coming, and I will make it to see you and everyone. Sorry I missed Mr. Todd, he knows I love him, but I really didn't want to push my knee too much. Got to get it well to shrimp you know.
Congrats on your win last night and so glad that Skip enjoyed the races. As you all know, I have been an asphalt girl for a long time but have learned that dirt is very exciting for sure and remember when Red use to race dirt next door to Orlando. Skip, you should get you a dirt mod and come and have some fun with us. That goes for Todd and Ron also.

that sounds SO wrong. we weren't playing in the trunk anyways. we were assembling the emergency grill.

When Jerry came and got his new tailgate for winning, I asked him to tell you to come see me. But he may have been so excited about his new tailgate that he forgot. But I did ask him. And yes, I am always at Volusia on Saturdays now since I write for them. So if you come again, just come over to the tower and I am there. I really do miss you and your dad. You always made sure to come and see me on Fridays whether you were racing or not and give me that "killer" smile you both have.
Skip - I have been surprised at how many asphalt guys I have found in dirt - Pat Buckley from New Smyrna Super Stocks, Randy Hecker who now has a dirt mod, Cody Blair who has a dirt mod, Rob Underwood who has both dirt mod and Super Late, Rich Pratt - dirt Super Late, Mike Brenahan - dirt Super Late, Alan McCafferty - dirt Street Stock, Dave Barber - dirt mod, James Smith, and on and on. Oh and I forgot, David Clegg who ran asphalt Lates with Kimber's father-in-law Donny Williams. And I remember watching Red on dirt a few times at the dirt track next door to SpeedWorld. The one thing I have found is a big difference between the two is car counts and payouts. Car counts seem to be much higher on dirt and the payouts are more. It has taken me awhile to learn that when they are sliding, they really aren't out of control like they would be on asphalt. And they don't seem to tear up their cars as much although I admit that Buzzie Reutimann's roll overs was scary two weeks ago but thank God he was okay. But maybe someday you will come try us and like us.Last edited by Jane; 06-29-2009, 07:32 AM.

Yea, I tried to spot the gathering from the stands to no avail. I was lazy and didnt actually walk over. One of these days, I will meet some of this illustrious crew.
The racing in all divisions held my interest, even the much drawn out sportsman race was a great race up front. Right down to the end.
On the plus side, I do like that more often than not VSP will roll the cars out of the pits and give them the green that same lap. Not too many wasted caution laps.
So who's going to NSS Thurs?

Thanks to Jerry and everyone I met for a good night... I just hope AB195 made it home.
I thought the racing was good. I think they messed up when they rolled the top side of the track at intermission. I think it took away what was building up to be a nice top side for the features.
I can't believe Bubba missed free food!...Bubba we decided that the over / under on the number of super lates for the "Clyde" was ten. I took the over and modracer22 laughed at my optimism... Going to the "Clyde" beats sitting at home on a Thursday night.
I'm waiting for Friday night at Putnam. A big old burger and sprint cars on dirt! A little slice of heaven. Let's just hope the show moves along and the track holds up.
